  1. I am suprised at such a debate over this. This forum is for adults to simply state an opinion not to be trashed by others. I would think some of you would know that first hand. What works for one baby and mother may not work for another. But I think there is something really wrong with people trying to make other mothers out to be bad simply because something worked for their baby. My youngest is 6 and very healthy. After using the EASY she has always been a wonderful sleeper who had not needed any coaxing. That may not work for every child some mothers may not be able to adapt to schedules. That is fine. I just wish people could state an opinion without having someone else come in and trash them.
  2. Dont need to google it this is what i did with my youngest. All I can say is it worked miracles for us. I'm not sure what you are referring to as a strict schedule. Have you read the book? Her whole method is "EASY" which stands for Eat, Activity, Sleep and You (time). Her whole thing is to allow the child to go to sleep naturally and on there own. I did not say this would work for every mother or every baby just offering my advice.
  3. Ok, dd6 is blowing through her phonics books. We are using Mcguffeys and progressive phonis and she reads through them in one sitting. She picks up dd9's chapter books and reads everything. Is it possible she doesnt need anymore phonics? She can sound out any word she notices know.
  4. OK I get it. What are the dvds mentioned on their home website for the K-2 grades? Do you feel this covers all the topics? We are using MEP and doing well with it but it is heavy on the TM and since I was not taught alot of mental math with dd9 I have to look up alot!
  5. I have to say that I am inclined to not agree with this. My dd9 is a very right brained child and has been tested twice when she was in PS and tested off the charts! She is well above her grade level on her reading, writing, has a memory that most people would kill for and I am learning that if I teach her new info in a way she processes it she is off and running by leaps and bounds. I think it is sad that alot of people think that because a child doesnt fit into some kind of mold that they have a LD or ADD or ADHD. I cant even begin to explain the differences with my dd9 since we started HS. The benefits have carried over into every aspect of her life.
  6. Am I seeing this correctly? Is the price around $15 for two years? Do all the years come with DVDs and how often are these watched. You have me curious now. I looked through the website and really like what I am seeing.
  7. Well after every other failed attempt our teen now knows that if she wants to do something her room has to be straightened. She has to clean it once a week but it must stay picked up at all times. I know this sounds impossible but after not being allowed to go on a few occasions she has gotten the message. She is in her senior year and works part time so I dont mean it has to be perfect but the bed made and the floor at least seen. Believe it ot not if I stick with the rules I have made she eventually gives in!!!
  8. The ice age and dinosaurs are both in our history MOH. This is not something all Christians disagree with just the time period in which it happened. we of course teach from a creation stand point so no big bang theory.
  9. We are loving MEP it is available at the link below free of charge and is a really challenging program. It has alot of mental math and most children start about a level lower than PS. It would be perfect for her to start in Y1 and progress at her rate. http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm
  10. Just wanted to chime in. we are using AWOA and it breaks it's studies down like this. For example the first 30 days is on Ancient Egypt and then it moves to Ancient Rome. Every month is a different topic. The kids are really enjoying it and not getting bord with the same every month.
  11. I would have to agree with the other post. While we have not been able to afford WWE right now I have been able to piece things together myself. At the beginning I wanted dd to right a few sentences about what we had read. This was impossible so I moved to, write about anything you want. That too was impossible. So then I got on board. She has copywork I print up for her from really good books or poems. She has dictation I take from her Mcguffey readers and then when we read I have her narrate to me as I collect and write her thoughts in sentence format for her. She is always amazed at how her thoughts come together on paper but she is not able just yet to do this on her own. Maybe try some other options for awhile to get a break and explore this option when she is ready.
  12. I took a poster board for each child. The pockets are made from a color poster board cut just a little bigger than an index card and then taped on with an opening on the top to slip the cards in and out. There are three rows titled - Morning - lunch - evening. There are two pockets for each time of day. One says "to do" and next to it the other says "done". They pull their cards which are made from index cards with each individual chore written on them, each time period and move them to the "done" pocket once they are completed. Does that make since?
  13. Well I cant say I had success with Abeka my dd9 did not retain much from Abeka she used it from k-3 and did fine until 2nd. She started HS this year and I was shocked at how little she had retained with Abeka. She used this at a private school she attended. We have not used Horizons but are using MEP. It is a spiral concept with alot of mental math this seems to really be working. It is free online if you would like to look it over. If you feel like Abeka worked with you dd then maybe you should go with it. Here is the link for MEP to look at http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm
  14. Oh, I almost forgot we made chore charts with seperate pockets for morning lunch and evening. One for each child. They have to pull their own cards at each point in the day and make sure all are done by the end of the day. That is working really well. If your little ones do not read well I saw where another mom used pictures on her chore cards.
  15. Yep, The Secrets Of The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg! A must for any new mother!!
  16. Just what we did. What is the name of that book? The Baby Whisperer? I am off to look. It changed my life.
  17. We start our day with bible study and a nature page in their notebooks outside. I have found that this seems to calm and focus them. I have a lesson plan made out for each day but I am learning that this is just a guideline. Write everyhting in PENCIL! After bible we move to math. This is about 30 minutes. The rest of our day is in our unit study AWOA, this takes us up to lunch. They get a 15 minute break at 10:30 to walk the dogs and then an hour for lunch. We finish anything that is left after lunch which is normally just reading. We are normally finished sometime around 1:30 - 2:00.
  18. I have no idea!!! But if you find out please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Keys For Kids has a great daily devotion. We print offline to get KJV but if you dont mind more modern translation you can have it maile to you bi-monthly. You can sign up online and they will send you the first year for free! After that I think the books are only like $2.00. My girls are really enjoying them. Our AWOA has an in depth bible study every mornins so we use the Keys For Kids as an extra. Teaches really good lessons.
