  1. In the rain: I have heard Herodotus has some in it. There is prostitution for the god, Aphrodite, then there is some sort of phallic procession, and father/daughter incest. In the Aeneid, there is some sex between Aeneas and Dido as well as Venus seducing her husband. Gilgamesh has sex with a prostitute. 12 Caesars has incest, homosexuality, beastiality, prostitution, and sex with children. The ones that don't have sex have a lot of sacrificing, cannibalism, and other such gore. I am trying to read through the books, but they are very heavy reading. Some of this information I actually found while reading, some I found while looking at summaries. I really like the overall feel of Omnibus, but with so many great books out there, I am really puzzled as to why they chose these...especially for seventh grade.
  2. I am thinking of using Omnibus I self-paced for my upcoming 7th grader this next year. I am a bit put off by the sexual content in many of the texts used. For this reason, I have found abridged texts, children's editions, etc. for those that I am concerned about. I was wondering if anyone knows if this questionable content is in any of the discussions. Thanks
  3. I am looking at doing a rigorous Algebra 1 with my son who is looking towards a programming career. He really needs to score high in SAT's as he looks ahead to college. Saying that, we really need a program that provides step by step solutions and is very clear and concise in it's explanations. Any suggestions for us?
  4. I know this is an older post, but I'm interested too, soooo BUMP...
  5. My oldest was 5. It was so bad. I held off until kindergarten, though. It is even more horrific at 14. His sweat just runs down his arms, legs, and hands. He takes 2-3 showers a day. Poor boy. He wears two prescription antiperspirants together. My other kids started at around 8-10 years old.
  6. On the back of each book it says "RL:" then a number. Civil War on Sunday has "RL: 2.3." So it's 2nd grade, 3rd month.
  7. We live in Pennsylvania where there are several cyber schools that fall under public education and totally free. Do any of these schools exist in Maryland? Mollie
  8. Thanks for the help. That book looks great. I was trying to come up with my own, but just not enough time and energy. Thanks again!
  9. I am doing American History with my 6th and 7th graders this year. I would like to look at one American Artist each week that coincides with the dates we are studying. I then want to make a kind of "art museum" that folds out with an art piece from each artist, then I want an art project that goes with it for the week. I've found american history crafts, I've found artist studies (but not just American), etc. but not really what I'm looking for. If anyone knows of any great book or curriculum that would meet most of these needs, let me know. Also, if this has been discussed previously, please link me. Thanks
  10. Thanks all. I'm getting in there first thing in the morning. Our district is very homeschool friendly, so I'm hoping it will be okay. I can't imagine that they'll refuse to let me homeschool next year because my portfolio is a day late. Now I hope I can sleep.
  11. I can't believe I did it! I was away yesterday, and put the portfolios in the car to drop off today. I stopped in the school at 4:00. They had closed at 3:30. Has anyone in Pa ever handed their portfolio in late? Are there any ramifications?
  12. Since the 4th volume is not out, where do I go after Volume III?
