  1. i'll give you a bump as I am also curious.:bigear:
  2. Thanks! We are in the middle of Ancient Egypt study lots of stuff we can use.
  3. What about the Weaver from Alpha-Omego publishing. This looks really close. Anyone use this? Dont know why I am already worried about next year!
  4. we are using AWOA this year, I see that there are 2 more but I really didnt want to have to change to something else mid stream. After we finish this year is there another program that is similar out there?
  5. Just wanted to comment we use the 1611 KJV and we also have a recent KJV and they are exactly the same except for the way some of the words are spelled since the spelling has changed in modern day. Just in case you are interested in why I have this opinion here is a great website that gives you some brief examples of the differences in KJV and NASB. http://www.hissheep.org/kjv/a_comparison_of_the_kjv_nasb.html
  6. I'll Brag!!! We were on our way home fro Walmart Friday and my dd6 says, "mommy I'm so glad we are hs". My dd9 agrees. Then she says and the best part is we never have to miss mommy!~ I thought my heart would bust. Made every minute worth it! :D
  7. :grouphug: I would never blame you for failing your kids. I think the fact that you are trying is a great thing. I think you need to back up and re-evaluate what you want out of your HS experience and be realistic about what you can give them. Are you over scheduling yourself and therefore shutting down because of frustration? What are the reasons you wanted to HS to begin with? Is it the program you are using? If your children are close in age maybe you should try a unit study and pull them all together. I know that this has made a huge difference in our days. What does your schedule look like now? Hang in there and in a moment of peace really think over these things and make a pros and cons list and decide what is best for your children and you.
  8. :hurray: couldn't have said it better myself. I also wanted to add that the study of your bible should be something special. It is the work of the Lord and should not rank right up there with Grammar and Math. Even if you find it hard to understand, I can testify to the fact that with alot of prayer and study you will begin to see the light!
  9. We only use the KJV. There are a few reasons why. First if you look into it more modern day version really change some of the scripture meanings, leave out words, and in some cases actually omit several verses. Secondly, we believe there is no greater book written than the KJV Holy Bible and what better way to teach my children to appreciate true literature. Now I should mention we have always taught our children only from the KJV and our church only uses the KJV so my children are very comfortable with the language. It may take some time getting used to but my children love our nightly read alouds and our morning studies. Please let me note this is just my opinion. You need to do what works for your family.
  10. I personally think you have answered your own questions. It sounds like you guys have had alot to deal with in the past and have done the best you can. So I think you are on the right track this year. Just take your time and give her plenty of room to learn. Once you get in, and are able to stay in your groove you may begin to see major advances with her. By the end of the year you should know if you still feel she needs to be tested. I would also say IMO if she missed that much of her 3rd grade year that it may take her longer to get her 4th grade. That is ok. The wonderful thing about HS your kids learn how they need to. Just take a breath and keep up the good work!
  11. I use a free worksheet printer and take key sentences or passages from the literature that we are either reading or have already read. I make sure and pick sentences with commas, quotations and different punctuation that she is working on.
  12. I am spending my Saturday making math games for the girls to do on Monday. I have the free file folder games and am wondering if anyone knows any other sites with good ideas. This will be used for basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills. Thanks!
  13. I would have to say yes. Having no mortgage would be worth alot. Material things are not always that important and sometimes when you "purge" you find out it really feels good. Of course we stuggle financially every month sooooo the idea of lowering monthly bills is a great thing to me right now.
  14. No would you think less of me if I said I just let my girls eat cupcakes for breakfast because I am on here laughing to hard right now!:smilielol5:
  15. :iagree:when my stepdaughter was in K the PS failed her she had not retained anything all year. We finally convinced her mother to get her tested and she had a LD. If it helps at all she has learned alot only at a very slow pace. She still has alot of trouble (and her mother refuses to pull her out of PS,) but she is progressing. You may need to just take as much time as it takes. Have you tried adding in math games to ease the drill? I can say for my oldest son he never learned all his x facts and it has followed him all the way through 12th grade making math and science very hard for him. Keep plugging and I would definitely look-up these ladies advice.
  16. We use them here! The great things about these is that once you get the idea you can make your own lapbook to cover anything you are studing. We use them alot to cement what they have learned. A good friend of mine has alot on her blog http://hearts-in-training.blogspot.com/. Example my youngest is memorizing her addition facts. She has a lapbook for this we just cut out different shapes and make her seperate number families as she learns them and then she adds it to her lapbook. She loves it. It is hands on which helps the memory process and she can open it up and review anytime.
  17. Yeah right there with you. My girl is 17 and her texting is driving me CRAZY!!!! We have had to set some rules. I agree it is rude to interrupt to answer a call we have discussed this and also no phone during dinner, homework, chores, etc. She also has to put her phone on my dresser at night after her phone curfew. All that being said Tracfone is not cheap. If you are going to allow him to keep texting you may want to look for a phone that gives unlimited. Boost by nextel is $50 amonth and gives unlimited text and voice. Good luck to you
  18. you can try this one. It has alot of different types of games. http://www.gamequarium.com/addition.html
  19. Make cake as you chose and then place cheap plastic meerkat toys on top? this year we had a dalmation cake and a fish cake but thank the Lord no meerkat cake. Good Luck!
  20. ok, guess i didnt read all the ruels I didnt even know what tags were. I love this board and make time when I can. It has helped me sooooo much and it is really the only board I have found that is worth anything!
  21. Thanks anyways for all your effort. I guess i will just ditch the program and look for something newer. Guess that what i get for trying to be cheap. lol
  22. I just rehomed my catahoula because she was to hard to handle. She was very smart and very protective. The only problem I had with her was that she was to rough for my kids. She would scratch them up just because she got excited. She now lives with a single young lady who is enjoying her company. If you have experience with the breed and can handle them I think they are a great breed. Wouldn't opt for one around small children. I myself am now the proud owner of 2, 5 pound Papillons and loving how small they are. The kids play with them non-stop (after schoolwork of course). Good luck to you!
