  1. This sounds like a lot of tweaking to me. (That's fine, I'm a total tweaker myself, lol!) :D But I'm just wondering, why can't HOD work this way as well? Is it because of the whole daily box setup? Is that why you think you can't drop a box here or add something else there? And I'm not just talking about you personally, but all of those HOD Moms who feel like HOD is not working perfectly for them.
  2. I stay OFF the general board for this very reason. I don't have time for crazy.
  3. Simmer down, people, simmer down! ;) :grouphug: MFW and HOD are BOTH wonderful Christian programs that center around the Bible. However one of these programs may work better for some families than for others, so we need to remember when someone gives their own personal opinion about how MFW or HOD did or did NOT work for them, to not take it personally. I have noticed that certain MFW and HOD'ers have a tendency to get a bit defensive when they see a negative comment made about the program they use. :chillpill: :D ETA: For me personally, I find I like certain aspects of BOTH programs, which is why I keep reading these sort of threads. If only there was an EASY way to combine the two, lol.
  4. Yes, the very, very end of the last chapter. Unfortunately I had no idea it would be there, so I didn't stop the audio. (We're listening to the audio version instead of reading it.)
  5. Did anyone else think the very end of Grammar Land was disappointing? I mean really, they had to kill the baby squirrel by accident? My 3 girls are sensitive and they were dismayed to hear this. I had enjoyed this fun story up until this point. :001_huh: At least it's at the VERY end, so next time I'll just cut the audio off early.
  6. Oh man, Homeschool Resource of the Day just had this on special this past week, but I didn't know anything about it and when I came to do a search here there hasn't been much said about it either. I have three girls, but they are very young, so I figured it would be a great while before I would have need of this as well.
  7. Hunter, do you think TGHW would be a good geography/countries/cultures program for a 4th grader? I'm thinking of doing a year with then 4th and 2nd graders, (in a couple of years) but I think Galloping the globe will be too basic for a 4th grader and I'm not too sure about MFW ECC, since it gets such mixed reviews. What ages do you think will truly benefit most from TGHW?
  8. After knowing the title I was able to find this book as well: http://www.christianbook.com/nature-drawing-journaling-lessons-through-natures/barry-stebbing/9780971787452/pd/635635?item_code=WW&netp_id=936908&event=ESRCN&view=details#curr This looks wonderful! My oldest dd REALLY loves to draw.
  9. Where can I find out more info on this nature study art program? Link anyone?
  10. I agree......I wish HOD offered something like the teacher's notes that are in TOG. If it did I would feel WAY better about using it as my children reach the upper level guides! I understand the HOD guides are written to the student once you reach a certain point (Preparing perhaps?), but I'm with you, there should be a separate Teacher's guide that helps the Mom feel in the loop on what her student is reading and learning.
  11. I can definitely see in your case why using HOD may not work, with as many children as you have. MFW or even TOG may work better in a large family situation. I only have 3, so I'm crossing my fingers that it will be a bit more manageable.
  12. If Beyond is working for you Linda, then I say plug your ears! :tongue_smilie: Some people don't like Beyond because it lingers on Pilgrims for a really long time. I personally chose MFW Adventures over Beyond BUT I will do Bigger the following year. As for Bigger, I know some people don't care for the Eggleston books. I think it's a matter of personal preference, and if your children are used to older books and the language used or not. These are just my own perceptions, of course, but again, if Beyond is working for you, then I wouldn't worry about what anyone else has to say. :001_smile:
