gardenmom5 Posted February 20, 2018 Share Posted February 20, 2018 I hadn't thought about it, but a friend posted a link to a: rifd anti-theft bag on ebags. slash proof, rif-proof, etc. there's wire mesh in the bags and wire cables in the straps to make them slash proof. hadn't thought about it - but now I'm looking. amazon has them too, so I'm not posting a link. With all the thought given to security, you would think they wouldn't use cheap hardware where the strap attaches to the purse! (I'm not rough on my handbags either.) Carry your cash for the day in a zipper pocket on your body, try not to carry your passports everywhere, use your purse to hold sunglasses, book, tickets snack, phone. Keep your key in your pocket. I generally carry cash/credit cards/passports in a small pouch under my shirt whenever I travel (no matter where) and it is a good idea to keep track of your purse (i.e. carry it more in front). Found them on Amazon. ​My travel purses are smaller cross body bags with lots of zippers. I just used a cute Vera Bradley bag while we were at Disney. SKL Posted February 20, 2018 Share Posted February 20, 2018 I don't carry a purse. I keep my wallet and cell phone in my front pockets (zippered if appropriate) when walking in areas that feel shady. I knew an old lady who had her arm busted and shoulder injured because she made it hard for a purse-snatcher. Wires in the strap etc. might not prevent the theft, it might just hurt you more. Hard to say. So if I was going to carry a purse, it wouldn't contain anything I cared much about, and I wouldn't go to extra measures to protect it. More about the purse I was complaining about... The stitching on the strap was also coming loose and exposing the security wire! Apparently they didn't use the "security" thread! The only things I need are money, ID, phone, and possibly passport when out and about, so I don't take a bag at all. Front pockets or inside pocket on a zippered jacket are my go-tos. And make copies of all your documents and keep them separately, either with another person or in your suitcase. You won't need to carry huge amounts of cash at any one time, just use an ATM at a bank. Alternatively, split the cash up between travelers. You will probably want a small change purse because Europeans use more coins than Americans. For example, the two euro coin is really useful for buying drinks, postcards, etc. Bathrooms usually take coins, usually one euro or 50 cents. As someone who always has an eye open for public restrooms while traveling, I've learned to never be without coins and tissues. Do you have chip cards? I have a bad shoulder and when I’m doing a lot of walking, it can be painful after a while to lug a handbag around, even if it’s a crossbody, so I’ll definitely check out the jacket. I bought one that has a black leather cord that someone might use for a casual necklace. If I would be wearing a jacket with a waist-band, the second level of stuff would go in a fanny pack with the bag part at the small of my back under the jacket with the jacket zipped at the waist. Third level of stuff, I would carry in a shopping bag. Who steals shopping bags? One thing to avoid is the waist thing that is under your pants. Everyone knows that they are common. The thieves know when you are wearing one, and those little $#@$# are quick. I remember a professor who was a big muscular guy talk about in Paris one of those kids shoving a piece of cardboard into his belly, and then lightening quick undoing his belt, unzipping the 'hidden' waist bag and snatching all his stuff in there. He snatched the kid off the ground and held him up kicking and screaming while they got their stuff back. The kid had an amazing amount of other people's stuff that they turned over to the police.
