Luanne
My head is so congested I can barely breathe. I really wish I could do something about it. Anyone?
prairiewindmomma
Sudafed, the good stuff sold behind the counter along with Zyrtec if you are just stuffy.
Catwoman
Are there any restrictions on what you can take? Is there a chance that OTC medications could interact badly with the chemo? I don't want to suggest anything that might be harmful to you.
happi duck
Sounds terrible ): I'm another vote for real sudafed...the one you can only get from behind the pharmacy counter. This isn't helpful if the pharmacies are all closed. Dh uses Alka Seltzer Plus cold medicine. It works great for him. It is sold in the normal cold medicine aisle. It's a mix of meds for congestion and pain. Hope you start feeling better and can get some good rest...if not tonight then tomorrow.
fdrinca
Sudafed. It's the only thing that works for me.
TeacherZee
Apart from what has already been recommended, when I had sinusitis my doctor recommended olbas oil. If you can't get that peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender oil drops in hot water, put a towel over your head and breath in the steam. Danestress
Is it allergies or a cold or something else? I like the old kind of sudafed - the little red tabs that you have to give your ID for now because of their use in manufactured meth). But some people can't take them because it interferes with sleep or can raise blood pressure. Since you are in the midst of treatment, I would ask. Meanwhile, I do think that the use of a Neti pot can be really helpful.
VaKim
And yet another vote for Sudafed. The only thing that ever actually worked for me or DH or anybody else I know.
PrincessMommy
another Sudaphedrine lover here. You have to go to the pharmacist and get it from behind the counter - don't get phenophedrine, which is available in the cold/allergy aisle. It's not the same. My 2nd choice for when the congestion starts migrating down to the chest is Mucinex.
East Coast Sue
I use Mucinex and a salt water sinus rinse. I hope you feel better soon!
Cinder
Agree on the real sudafed, though I did have one cold recently that was so horrible sudafed just took the edge off. It helped me to sleep on the couch so I could keep my head propped up. (Trying to sleep propped up on my bed failed. I managed to slide all the way off the pillows during the night *and* get a crick in my neck on top of it.) If I'm super desperate Benadryl will do. But it makes me feel hung over afterward. :grouphug:
Ottakee
The sudefed and Mucinex if chest congestion too. Then Afrin or similar generic nasal spray. You can't over use it but it sure does help you breathe.
Spryte
I currently have a sinus infection plus strep. Doc has me on (real) sudafed, plus a nasal spray (it's either flonase or nasonex, I can't remember which), plus abx, of course. I'm supposed to do the neti pot a few times daily, too. Maybe some of those ideas would help you. Hope you feel better soon.
bibiche
I would do nasal lavage with a saline/baking soda/xylitol solution.
