Michelle My Bell
It was bought new last night and we found it this morning left out on the counter. I keep my house at 66 degrees at night.
cjzimmer1
I'm pretty lax on food standards but I wouldn't eat that. Sorry.
Catwoman
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In case you were wondering, that means I wouldn't eat it. :D Just think of all the bacteria that's growing in there by now... :ack2: )
livingnlearning
hmmm, I think I would heat it up to use it but not cold. Hot sandwiches instead of cold...
Twigs
It's all those cut surfaces on the slices that make it so risky. Cut surfaces = where any bacteria or viruses would be.
bbkaren
If it smelled okay, I'd eat it. Now. Not much longer than going to a party or a buffet and eating that meat; who knows how many hours that coldcut tray's been sitting out. I wouldn't really trust it to put back in the fridge and eat a few days from now, though. eta: wait. did I miss something? It's still in its packaging, right? (re: The mention of bacteria, and viruses??) Edited December 9, 2011 by bbkaren
Tigger
I'm usually pretty open to eating just about anything -- but deli meat, left out all night - NO WAY! (unless it's cheese, then I'd eat it, but probably would put it into something cooked)

Mrs Mungo
eta: wait. did I miss something? It's still in its packaging, right? (re: The mention of bacteria, and viruses??) All food contains bacteria. That's why you cannot let it sit out at room temperature too long.
MinivanMom
No, absolutely not.
Bassoonaroo
Where's the H377 No option? It's not worth the couple of dollars to risk food poisoning! Meat needs to be below 40F. That's all there is to it. Some ladies have said they'd immediately heat it and eat it now. I still say no. The problem with that is that while the heating to 140F or above would indeed kill the bacteria, it doesn't destroy the toxins (think of toxins as being bacteria poop -- not at all accurate, but you get the idea) that the bacteria left behind. Toxins make you sick too. Throw the meat out and just consider it one of those mistakes we all make now and then.
TheApprentice
It's meat. I don't eat meat left overnight because of how quickly bacteria can grow.:ack2:

sewingmama
No way -deli meat is too touchy. My DS ate some out of the fridge that was a couple days old and threw it up. If I had left some out of the fridge for even an hour I would toss it.
J-rap
NO.
bcnlvr
Deli meat is loaded with salt, preservatives, and whatnot so that it lasts as long as possible for the buyer. I don't eat deli meat, but if I did and this happened to me, it would get eaten. It has so many bacteria retardants in it that it is probably safe. OTOH, I guess, too, it would depend on the brand. Boar's Head doesn't add all that stuff and I wouldn't eat that if it were left out......
Hilltop
I would toss it.
NicAnn
If it were another kind of meat, maybe possibly. But NO way for deli meat. Especially if you are immune compromised in anyway or pregnant.
