Guinevere
Is it a bad idea to try it the first time when I'm alone with the kids and have errands to run? I've never had nightquil either, so I don't know how I respond to it.
SparklyUnicorn
Dayquil works quite well for me. It won't make you drowsy. You should be fine.
Guinevere
Such good news. I won't touch anybody or do gross contagious things, but I really have to get stuff done tmrw. Can I take tylenol at the same time?
PinkTulip
Listening in because I woke up really sick today but have to be Head Timer at my kids swim meet tomorrow afternoon.
JudoMom
DayQuil makes me sleepy, even though it's non drowsy. Other non drowsy meds make me drowsy, too.
Guinevere
It's just getting more exciting here. Ds just threw up. Not good. Not good at all.
EmseB
Dayquil made me extremely fuzzy. Like couldn't drive or think. I am the odd one out apparently, but just wanted to put it out there.
Junie
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Me personally, I don't take any new medicine unless there is another adult or an older teenager around. YMMV (I know that my body often reacts strongly to medicine.) Actually, because of food allergies, I won't even eat a new food unless there is another adult or an older teenager around.
mom2scouts
You should be OK with Dayquil. Almost every kind of medicine knocks me out, including things like Advil. I can't take things like Benedryl, Nyquil, or allergy medicine of any kind unless I know I'll be able to sleep for a long time, but Dayquil doesn't affect me at all. KungFuPanda
DayQuil makes my head weirdly floaty, but all antihistamines do that to me. It sure does work. NyQuil puts me into another dimension before it knocks me out cold. I really should consider holding the dose next time. I wouldn’t worry about driving and driving IS easier when you can breathe. dsmith
I stay away from that stuff. It gives me heart palpitations!
AnnE-girl
It really depends on how you react to the ingredients. I still remember the one time I took it in college because I was miserable, but had to get through the day. I had a meeting with one of my professors and I felt like I was watching myself have this conversation in which I was not making any sense. Dh can take it and just get on with his day without any weird side effects.
HomeAgain
Yep, you may have side effects if you have trouble with antihistamines. Dayquil knocks me on my rear and makes me incoherent and Nyquil keeps me up all night. FWIW, I can take Tylenol Severe Cold And Flu without the same side effects. Guinevere
I can be sensitive to things, so I guess I won't try it. I figured out how to manage the day without having to actually do anything. Yay for food pickup, and friends who will step up!

I went somewhere with DH after I took it and I was supposed to be giving him directions. I had been to this place before and he hadn't. I could not think right at all and we drove in circles as I kept telling him to turn at various points, but I remember it now that I had no idea what I was saying or how to get where we were going. Kind of hilarious now.
goldberry
DD swears Dayquil is the savior of college. It doesn't do much for me! Love me some Nyquil though. It's the only way I get any rest when I'm sick.
Word Nerd
It upsets my stomach unless I take it after eating something, but I don't have any drowsiness even though other "non-drowsy" cold meds make me sleepy.
