Sandragood1
Dd's 4- H group is collecting gifts and making cards for the teens in our local family homeless shelter. Anyone have any good ideas? After earbuds, I'm at a loss. Thank you!
Kassia
I would try to get practical gifts, but try to make them fun/youthful - fuzzy socks/regular socks/slippers, gloves/mittens/scarves/hats (if in a cold climate), headbands, chapstick, scented body lotions, beef jerky, candy, gum, graphic t-shirts or hoodies, fleece leggings and/or leggings in fun patterns, gel pens...
teachermom2834
Funny socks and t shirts seem to be good for teens and actually useful as well. Also beanies.
MercyA
I like the above ideas, but I think I'd also contact the shelter and ask what the teens might like or are in need of most.
Sandragood1
Thank you for the ideas. I asked the shelter for ideas but they didn't have any.
heartlikealion
I just thought of another idea. Mini bottle of fragrance? Is that allowed? I don't know it that's allowed because alcohol content??
Dmmetler
Bath and Body Works stuff? Like fragrant lotion? I know my DD adores that stuff.
mominco
How about wet and wild nail polish/eyeliner?Or even sinful they are actually quite inexpensive esp the holiday colors or glitter nail polish. I have seen Lip smackers type of lip balm in a 4 or 6 pack,You can break the pack up and use it in individually. Coffee mugs with cocoa/marsh mellow and a candy cane? I like the leggings idea. Scarves, Gum,Altoids, menthos Ulta always has a good sale and they have many 5 for $5 items.

Tanaqui
Call the shelter again, ask if they're open to having the kids make requests.
Sandragood1
The shelter is a short term shelter that emphasizes getting families jobs and homes. The kids that are there now probably won't be there in 30 days so they don't do wishlists.
Sandragood1
Thank you for even more good ideas!
Dmmetler
If you have a Five Below store, they have a lot of teen-friendly stuff.
Alicia64
Gold chocolate coins -- I think all kids love those.
Tanaqui
Oh, I see. If that's the case, I'd go with gift cards to clothing stores and one book per expected teen. A lot of homeless kids are embarrassed by the state of their clothes (if you can swing gift cards to a laundromat as well it's sure to be appreciated, and throw in some detergent) and new threads will make anybody cheerful. But it depends on how much of a budget you have and how many kids you're expecting to help. If it's a lot of kids on a tight budget, then hat/scarf/sock sets and some lip balm might be a better bet.
