Suzanne in ABQ
It's just a question I've pondered for about 45 years. I've never met anyone who reads it, yet it has held prime space in the Sunday Comics longer than I've been alive. (Actually, I just looked it up, and it was started in 1936!) I'm guessing my FIL might read it, as he's always loved pulp fiction, but he always preferred science fiction type stuff (and he's 89yo.) Anyway, do you, or anyone you know, read Prince Valiant? Guest
I read it when I was a kid, but we don't have a newspaper subscription any more. I'm not some sort of a freak, apparently. A quick internet search revealed that there was a movie of it in 1954 and a cartoon series and that there are also collections of the strip in .pdf (and presumably book) form as well. My ds8 would probably enjoy it. He's on a summer comic book binge. Edited July 30, 2016 by Guest
Jean in Newcastle
We don't get a newspaper any more due to cost, but when we did, I read all the comics including Prince Valiant and Mary Worth.
kiana
I always read it when we got the newspaper.
Kareni
A good friend from my college days loved it. Her mother used to mail her strips from their hometown Sunday paper. Regards, Kareni
Seasider
I did, for as long as we received a newspaper.
Guest
My dad did. None of us ever caught the bug, though.
TrixieB
Dh always read it, but it's not in our paper anymore. He said it's not interesting, but the story kept going...
Seasider
Dh always read it, but it's not in our paper anymore. He said it's not interesting, but the story kept going... Exactly! I was lured in by the medieval theme but just kept reading in search of closure!
Cinder
In our paper it's Judge Parker; I skip over it. Ds2 reads it though. He says he just reads all the comics on the page, even Family Circus. lol
mellifera33
No paper now, but Prince Valiant was one that I didn't read even when we got a paper. Half the comics now are duds.
fairfarmhand
No paper now, but Prince Valiant was one that I didn't read even when we got a paper. Half the comics now are duds. The comics began their slow decline when Calvin and Hobbes disappeared.
Mothersweets
Growing up I would skip over it. As an adult I started reading it and enjoyed it but stopped getting the paper on a regular basis about 12 years ago. Maybe 6 or 7 years ago I noticed that it wasn't in the funnies when I would get an occasional Sunday paper. :(
ikslo
I clicked on this thread thinking it was a book or something. I just googled it. Nope, never read it and don't remember it.
AFwife Claire
Ha, we are at my parents' house right now, and Prince Valiant is in their paper. I glanced at it and wondered the same thing this afternoon: Who reads this anymore?! Too funny to see this thread now!
PixieLittle
Well, my dad read it as a kid. He was born in the 1930s. He named (middle name) me after the Princess in it :) I've met one other person with the name Aleta, and yep, her dad named her after the comic, too :D
