Kimberly in IN
My high school kids had a little party and afterwards, I found some pills. I have Googled but have been unable to identify them. They are probably something otc & somebody just transferred them to an old mints container, but my mom gut says I should make sure. The tablets are oblong, reddish brown in color wth 51 imprint. Thanks!

Kimberly in IN
Hornblower, thanks for the website suggestion. It is one of the sites I have already looked through. Since I could not find the tablet on any of the sites, I turned to the all knowing hive. ;)
Dicentra
Could you post a picture? Hubby is a pharmacist but we're in Canada so he can't guarantee pills would look the same. Some do, some don't. He's willing to take a look, though.
maize
Maybe take it to a local pharmacy and ask?
Tap
Nothing is coming up in the databases. Maybe try to double check your imprint. Sometimes imprints are number, icons, letters, or corporate symbols. If there is a 51 on one side, is there anything on the other? is it oblong, or are there straight edges too? Like an octogon, but longer? Or teardrop shaped? Edited July 3, 2016 by Tap
fdrinca
http://blog.aarp.org/2011/11/14/which-pill-is-which-use-the-pill-identifier-tool/ http://www.healthline.com/pill-identifier Did you try these?
JFSinIL
doesn't Tylenol or Advil have a 51 on it? Or maybe 51 just refers to pill size? I'd show it to a pharmacist
luuknam
Maybe try to double check your imprint. Sometimes imprints are number, icons, letters, or corporate symbols. And try S1, 5I, SI, etc.
Okra
I second taking it to a pharmacist. And, I think it is very important to check up on this. Sure, no biggie it could be Advil, but it's a good idea to make sure it's nothing bad.
mysticmomma
Is it scored? Tablet or capsule? Coated? I think colace has 51a on one side.
Amy in NH
I've had brown oblong Ibuprofen with I2 on them. If you read it upside down it might look like 51. I have also been known to take a few out of a bottle and transfer them to another container to take with me when I'll be away from home.
AmandaVT
Does it look like this? https://www.google.com/search?q=generic+ibuprofen+image&safe=active&espv=2&biw=1261&bih=614&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiHhL6cuNfNAhVk6YMKHVSXDlMQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=k50IhxI5jI0ErM%3A I've had ibuprofen that looks like you're describing before.
JFSinIL
And, why not ask your kids who left their pills behind. Someone might be missing a needed prescription. Odds are it is that, or painkiller.
Alexigail
You can take a photo and then do a google image search.
ktgrok
If it helps, any narcotic I've ever had, or muscle relaxant, etc has always been white. No coating. A coating like that could be advil, or generic prilosec, off the top of my head.
KarenNC
Is it a gel cap or a solid caplet? If solid, it sounds like generic ibuprofen caplets, though not sure about the imprint. A number of websites are calling the color I think you mean maroon, so that might help in the search.
VaKim
I just took two Equate (WalMart) Advil and they're reddish, long, with a 51 on them! I think we've found them. Are you sure you aren't looking at them upside down or something? Because mine have 1-2 printed on them, referring to the recommended dose. Like in this link. http://images.medscape.com/pi/features/drugdirectory/octupdate/PHA06470.jpg
Kimberly in IN
Thank you for all of the assistance!!! Thank you Margaret in CO!!!!! I was hoping it was something ordinary, not illegal or someone's prescription. I found the 23 tablets in an Altoids Mints container with a small amount of marijuana and rolling papers. I am quite relieved about the tablets. Now need to figure out best way to deal with the rest of the container. The hive is all knowing. Even though I could not identify the tablets on line, I had a feeling that someone here would have an answer or direction to look. Thank you.
