Spryte
Help! SIL, that we are just getting to know (think long lost family just reunited in the last year) is bringing her boyfriend to Christmas. He's probably 40ish, has a nine yr old DD, and that's about all we know about him. We need a small gift for him and I'm stumped. I literally have nothing to go on. I don't know anything about him at all, other than he's got a DD. Help, please. :)
wonderchica
Gift card to a restaurant? A nice shaving set (Art of Shaving)?
marbel
Can you ask your SIL if he likes wine? My inclination would be to get a bottle of a mid-priced red. A mug and some coffee may be safer if you can't find that out. He may not like coffee, of course, but most likely there is no chance he is a recovering coffee-holic. Or maybe some sort of general interest gifty book, like you might see in Barnes and Noble? (if you have one.)
Liz CA
A selection of coffee/tea samplers and a nice ceramic mug? (Ask SIL if he is a coffee drinker) A pair of gloves & scarf in neutral colors A box of nice chocolates
EMPgirl
DH and my grown DS's always like to receive a nice Fenix flashlight. Lots of different models depending on your price. http://www.amazon.com/E12-flashlight-EdisonBright-alkaline-battery/dp/B00I9W7MRK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1450755519&sr=8-3&keywords=fenix+aa

Cinder
I'd go with scarf and/or flashlight. Maybe fun socks?
TrixieB
Starbucks card in a mug, maybe add a candy like a mini bag of Lindor truffles.
dancingmama
Unknown man I usually go the scarf/glove route if they live even remotely in a climate it gets cold, or a warm blanket in neutral colors. Slippers if you can get shoe size. And gift receipt for whatever you buy.

clementine
We get snow here - my dh had to get a secret Santa gift & chose an extendable ice scraper/window brush for the guys car. He loved it & it was $15.

Tsuga
I second a flashlight. You can never have enough and not everyone likes the same food or alcohol. Another possibility is an Amazon / Target gift card in a gift card box and a heartfelt, handwritten card saying that you hope you get to know him and his family better over the years so you can give a more personalized gift.
Spryte
Thanks, all! Knew you'd come through for me. I'll find something today. :) And then I'm going to write that heartfelt note to go along with it. Love that idea!

OnTheBrink
What about one of those all-in-one tool things you can put on your keychain? Every man can be a hero if he's toting a portable screwdriver or pliers. LOL
