mamajag
In the last 3 months, it seems like everything that can break has broken. Yesterday it struck again. I'm out of money and nearly out of Mike's. Pray. :crying: :cursing: :crying:  Here's what's gone wrong: Lawnmower irreparably broken and had to be replaced (if my husband can't rig something, just forget it) Washing machine pretty much exploded while on a bleach cleaning cycle, leaving my laundry room and all the clothes separated out into separate loads on the floor and multiple pieces of bedding in 3 inches of bleach water. Unfortunately it didn't damage the ugly as all get out comforter I was hoping to throw away. The flooring in the youngest kids' room was badly peeling up and had to be replaced when we replaced their bunk beds because they were falling apart. Built a run for the chickens and had a storm come and a massive limb fell and tore it down. At least we didn't lose any chickens. The dryer then broke, but the parts were only about $80, so she's running again. Oh, we need a new roof. Yay. And the expensive as all get out tires on my husband's one ton dually? We ended up with a hole in one of them I could put my pinky in. By some miracle it was repairable. I still look at that tire expecting it to deflate any minute. During a massive decluttering of the youngest kids' room, somehow stuff was piled up on my oldest's desk and her laptop screen was destroyed. That'll run me $150-300 to fix. Just for fun, *my* laptop has to be sent to Apple for service. Video/motherboard recall issues...in the middle of lesson planning for the year. No words. This leaves a massively slow 2010 iMac. This will be free, but I have to undo all the aftermarket upgrades I did to it so they will honor the warranty. My passenger sliding door on my Odyssey has decided to fight closing, and since my local dealer has closed I get to drive 2 hours for warranty service. I'm not doing that until my husband comes home from Africa. I can't drive his truck that well yet. I ordered 15 new baby chicks. One arrived quite ill. My kids raise the chicks, so they were heartbroken when she passed. We had a Catholic funeral for it in the backyard today. We were supposed to start back with writing and grammar today. I just couldn't. I put it off another week. :leaving: Murphy go bug someone else! We're done!

mamajag
Thanks ladies. I forgot the worst one. I'm waiting on an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulders. My rotator cuff is torn on my dominant arm. *shakes head* It's got to stop soon, right?
Catwoman
Oh no!!! :( I'm so sorry for everything that is going wrong, and having a torn rotator cuff on top of everything else??? :crying: Sending you hugs and prayers. :grouphug:
mamajag
Thank you for the hugs and prayers. They are always appreciated! :grouphug: I tore my rotator cuff in February and have been under the care of a conservative local ortho since. Trying to arrange for a specialist at the academic medical center to have a look at it because I'm pretty sure my kids (though they are really helpful) are ready to have a fully functional mom again.
Rebel Yell
Thanks ladies. I forgot the worst one. I'm waiting on an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulders. My rotator cuff is torn on my dominant arm. *shakes head* It's got to stop soon, right? UGH! Up until this, it was all just "things" that could be replaced or repaired with a little bit of time and money. (Except the chick, that is sad.) OK, maybe some of them are a lot of money... But you should not have to deal with a major health issue on top of any one of those things, let alone ALL of them. :grouphug:
MommaOfalotta
:grouphug: :grouphug: ETA: You could turn it into a drinking game. Take a drink for everything that's broken! There is ALWAYS enough alcohol. Sorry you are having it so rough, mama! There is nothing more stressful/overwhelming than the feeling of nothing going right/not being able to get ahead. It's suffocating at times. Cheers! :cheers2:
almondbutterandjelly
Aww, hugs. It's all in perception, isn't it? I read your email and thought, well what if we took a different perspective? Hubby got a new lawnmower. Yay! New washing machine and fun clothes shopping. Yay! New wardrobe! New bunk beds and new floor in kids room. Yay! Free range chickens! Awesome! Working dryer. Yay! Brand new roof. Yay! We own a dually. Yay! My dd has a laptop. Yay! I have two iMacs. Yay! We own a Honda Odyssey. Yay! 14 new baby chicks. Cute! A week's vacation from school. Yay! mamajag
We're blessed and I know it. All of that happening at once and we're still afloat without major credit card damage. It's just going to hurt for a bit. I'm cranky, not sleeping worth anything, just realized I couldn't drive my husband's truck if I wanted to due to it being a standard and my right arm hurting, and I just want things to stop breaking now. I need a break from completely reinventing the budget every 3 days.

redsquirrel
Mikes? I think we are beyond that. Girl, switch to vodka. it is cheaper per ounce and you can mix it with things so you have more variety. Put it in spicy V8, call it a bloody mary, and you are also getting your vegetables.

I have a 2003 Odyssey with 170K miles. Everything under the hood works great, but in the last year, both sliding doors have broken, and when they break, they break OPEN. Both times! They have to be forced closed to drive to the dealership and I was not strong enough to do it on my own (and I am fit). It takes a few days for them to order the parts and fix it too. What if you have a car full of kids and stuff at the grocery store and the door breaks when you open it to load your groceries? And then you have to have it taken 2 hours away to get fixed? It will be such a huge PITA, trust me. Make a plan and get it replaced BEFORE it ruins your day/week. And for the rest of your list, you have my deepest sympathy!!
Retired
Gosh sounds like my life a few years ago. I had a bad period of time well, fridge, washer, car etc all needed money to fix it all at once and my parents came to live with us major health issues. We made it through it and now years later. We actually have a saving and most of our stuff is newer (since it all had to be replaced when we were broke as crap LOL) and my parents are livng on their on again (thank god) Mike's just aren't strong enough. Tequila is cheap and you need fun tequila songs ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdMTl9zHQ9Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue2-ZVxpVjc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj2700em-JQ
catz
We are having that year! We've replaced our microwave, washer/dryer, car (died unexpectedly), dishwasher. Our fridge tried to burn our house down and is dying. Our stove needs service because the stove isn't lighting well and they might tell us to get a new one because it's 10 years old. We just bought new furniture because our couches are threadbare (they are 20 years old so at least they've had a good run!). Our AC needed a repairman recently and we had central air installed less than a year ago! Oh, and my father died unexpectedly in April. :crying: Put a fork in me because I'M DONE! Anyway, I definitely feel your pain. ETA - definitely add me to the tequila bandwagon. CHEERS!
Kim in Appalachia
:grouphug: Oh my, such a craptastic 3 months. :grouphug: and I agree, you are beyond Mikes. Time for something stronger. Long Island Iced tea is good this time of year. Sip and watch the cute baby chicks run around. And I do understand. Our van died, which wasn't too much of a shock, just a bit earlier than we planned. We bought a new one, but then the truck died. We had to have the engine rebuilt/replaced??? I don't know, something like $6,000 later it was fixed. Yay.
Anne in CA
All that does suck. I am just sorry. On another note, I agree that Tequila songs are very fun, and I would start with Pancho Villa, and go on from there.

Vodka requires money since my husband drank the stuff I usually mix with the kids' sprite.

It has already been in the shop twice for it, the first time towed because the door would not shut. It's an alignment issue now, and the kids know not to use that side. But yeah, if I could drive my husband's dually well enough with my shoulder she'd be in the shop right now for an extended vacation. The truck is 16 and stubborn. ;)
mamajag
Yes, I needed to be thankful that we could deal with so much and still be standing, but also some of those things haven't been fixed (like my daughter's laptop and the roof) because there just isn't money. I'm out from all the other repairs. There was no new wardrobe either. Just enough to get us by. The big window unit that cools the entire house tripped both the GFCI on the unit and the breaker yesterday, and when I told DH about it he said to start budgeting for another because it happened while he was in country and those tripping are usually the start of a compressor dying. So it's still happening. And I left out the stove last month. I have a lovely gas range we got a very very good deal on, but it was $750 I really didn't have. And I was contacted by the specialist's office today. They were dismayed when they found out who I had been seeing and said their 3 shoulder specialists would review my records, see what kind of mess they are inheriting, and decide if any of them were willing to clean up this guy's mess. Once all that happens, they'll make me an appointment. So pray they take me. And I left out the stove last moI have a lovely gas range we got a very very good deal on, but it was $750 I really didn't have.Any ordinary couple of problems I laugh it off. But this is a level of crap no one should have to go through, and I'm sick of it, throwing a pity party, and drinking in the afternoon. I found the vodka...and stole my kids' last cold sprite. I make no apologies for that. I'm human.
