Halftime Hope
Please post recipes or links to them, or a recipe name to be Googled. Thanks so much! I'll come back later and post a couple of favorites that I dug out of the recipe box. ETA: It can be any kind of food, not just red, white, and blue colored, although the links Milovany posted are VERY cute.

umsami
We are going to be boring, sorry. Making hamburgers, with caramelized onions, peppers, etc. We'll have most likely potato chips and homemade onion dip. Doritos and Velveeta/Rotel dip. Watermelon. Strawberry, banana, raspberry, and blueberry fruit salad too. Possibly red/white/blue drinks (use different densities of juice, etc.) Usually we do something red/white/blue dessert wise.....poke cake, flag cake, ice cream sandwiches with red/white/blue sprinkles.....but....we have leftover bday cake to eat up.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking you wanted solely red-white-and-blue things, that's just all I know I'm making so far, LOL. We're going to a potluck party at church so just have to bring meat and a side dish and I haven't decided on those two yet. By the way, I've done the Firecracker Cake before and it's not hard and super fun for the event. Ree, at Pioneer Woman, has posted her list of 4th of July foods.
Miss Mousie
We are going to someone else's house, so no complete meal here. I'm making cherry tomatoes stuffed with cream cheese and topped with either basil or cilantro. DH is making deviled eggs.
Ali in OR
Like Umsami, pretty basic here. Grilled burgers Potato chips Fruit salad (local blueberries and boysenberries are amazing right now--picked 18 pounds today) Dessert will be awesome brownies with homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Not sure if the brownies will be homemade or Ghirardelli. Can you tell I think about dessert more than anything else? Brownies a la mode feels pretty all-American to me even if it isn't red, white, and blue.
ThisIsTheDay
Possibly red/white/blue drinks (use different densities of juice, etc.) We've made these, and they are so much fun! I used some sort of red 100% juice on the bottom, blue gatorade for the middle, and diet 7-Up for the top (diet drinks are lighter in weight). They were gorgeous. I've made them a couple of times, even a big hit with my older teens.

ETA: It can be any kind of food, not just red, white, and blue colored, although the links Milovany posted are VERY cute. Well, this came up in the banana pudding thread...my Hummingbird Bars... I've been making these for decades. They are so good! I hope you enjoy them. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour a 15x10 bar pan. 3 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt Stir the above dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Toss in 1 cup chopped nuts. In a large bowl, Beat together: 2 c. sugar 1 c. oil 2 tsp. vanilla 3 eggs Then stir in: 2 c. (2 med.) diced bananas 1 c. maraschino cherries, halved 8 oz. can crushed pineapple, undrained Add the flour and nut mixture and stir to combine. Pour into prepared pan and bake 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Meanwhile, prepare glaze. GLAZE: 6 TBS butter, very soft 2 1/4 powdered sugar 3-5 TBS milk In a small bowl, beat all glaze ingredients, adding just enough milk for desired glaze consistency. Let bars cool about 30 minutes. Spread glaze over still warm bars; cool completely. Cut into bars and store in refrigerator. Yield: 48 bars. These are awesome!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Edited to add some answers to questions: The pan size is 15 x 10. It does have the "short" sides of about 1 inch high. It isn't like a cupcake pan, with separate wells or holes. It is more like a cookie sheet with higher sides. The further confuse the issue, I think the pan can also be called a jelly roll pan. As for the maraschino cherry issue...I think they'd be fine without the cherries or with a substitute (like fresh or frozen cherries or dried cherries. Maybe reconstitute the cherries with some warm water?) Most "hummingbird" cake recipes I've seen dont have cherries anyway, only banana and pineapple. Oh, and as to the pan size. This fills the pan very full and the glaze takes it to the tippy top. If you do add fruit, don't go bananas (PUN!) and add too much otherwise you'll have spillage.
unsinkable
Rainbow Jello...any colors you want. Red, white, and blue but sometimes it is hard to find the blue this close to the 4th (or that might just be where I live, LOL) https://en.m.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Rainbow_Jell-O
unsinkable
Chicken Wing Dip I've been making this at least 15 years or so. My friends and family LOVE it this way. In more recent years, chicken wing dip recipes have become popular that use canned chicken and cream cheese, which surprises my F&F when they run into it, bc they are used to MINE. :D So...here it is! Approx 2lbs chicken breasts, seasoned generously with salt and pepper and some kind of garlic, poached. Save approx 1 cup of poaching liquid. (Garlic can be fresh minced or granulated.) Poach and then shred as soon as it is cool enough to handle. Blue cheese dressing, 1 1/2 to 2 cups (Marie's refrigerated chunky blue cheese dressing is great.) Hot sauce 1/4 to 1 cup (Frank's is our 1st choice.) I tossed everything together, with some poaching liquid so the consistency is of a very wet tuna salad. Hot sauce is definitely to taste. Start with the smaller amount and taste as you go. You can also add more black pepper, too. I usually do. I usually use 1/2 cup of poaching liquid, 2 cups of blue cheese dressing, 1 cup of hot sauce and 1 tsp of pepper. Heat until warm in either microwave or oven. In the oven, it's flexible, depending on what else you're using the oven for. 325 to 375...10-20 minutes until hot. Serve with tortilla chips or scoops or make into baked taquitos or quesadillas.
AnnE-girl
I'm not hosting, but I'm bringing cole slaw and ice cream sandwich cake to the family party we're going to. The ice cream sandwich cake is sooo not like the usual natural, from-scratch foods I usually make, but it's really good. You need: 22 ice cream sandwiches, 16 oz Cool Whip, a jar of caramel ice cream topping, and salted peanuts. In a 13x9" pan, place one whole and one half sandwich across the 9" side until you have a full layer. Spread the first layer of sandwiches with half of the cool whip, the jar of caramel, and sprinkle with peanuts. Repeat a second layer of sandwiches, then cover the sandwiches with the rest of the cool whip and sprinkle with more peanuts. Freeze for several hours or overnight. Remove from freezer 20 minutes before serving.
Halftime Hope
Thanks for the posts upthread, folks! Lots of GREAT looking food. Yuuuum! I found a recipe this morning that I had printed off who-knows-when ago, and I tried it to rave reviews tonight. The fam has branded it a keeper! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/rosemary-ranch-chicken-kabobs/ The picture that pops up first is quite a bit more thoroughly grilled than would be to my taste, as dried out grilled chicken doesn't appeal. One more yummy idea. For years I've made a plain potato salad (mayo, grainy mustard, diced onions, sweet relish, a small jar of pimentos for pretty color), but the secret ingredient that *everyone* loves is a diced red apple (I use a Gala) that gives it sweetness and crunch. (Recipe courtesy of Doris Moulton.) Whenever I beg, borrow, or steal a recipe, I promise the generous cook that their recipe will forever be enshrined in my recipe box with their name on it, so the above is Doris Moulton's Potato Salad.

I couldn't believe how good it was. :)

Halftime Hope
I saw a really cute picture of a watermelon and blueberry fruit salad, with the watermelon cut in small star shapes (small cookie cutter) and blueberries sprinkled in with it. Very appealing, but oh-so-time-consuming. I'm too old for such.

The Girls' Mom
We are having our big party tomorrow. I'm making ribs (Texas dry rub style), brisket, pulled BBQ chicken, and hot dogs. We will also have homemade ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, peach, and blackberry flavors. Oh, and I'll make some limeade and sweet tea. All the guests are supposed to bring a dish as well.

Junie
I'd be the only one eating those. I don't care if I'm the only one eating them. They are sooo good, I'll gladly eat them all. The Girls' Mom
Drooling!!! Did you settle the outhouse situation? Money settled it for us. We did not get one. Also, we are in the middle of a monsoon, so I'm thinking the attendance will be way down. I opted for a big sign in the bathroom to put paper products in the trash. How do you make your brisket? I have one to make tomorrow and still don't know what to do with it. I cook it all day in a roaster. I cheat with the seasonings on it. I use McCormick's Montreal Steak seasoning. Everyone loves it. I have my own "secret" rib rub recipe though...lol.
Halftime Hope
For the poster upthread, Pioneer Woman has a pretty good tutorial on cooking brisket. Braised with smoke sauce is very good; it doesn't have to be smoked to be good.
