For some reason a couple of kids love kale salad, which consists of organic kale, tiny carrot bits, purple cabbage and sesame dressing.  It is usually $4.99 at the store, but it was clearanced for $1.59 so I became giddy and bought 8 packages.  I had some for lunch, and a kid had kale salad for brekkie and lunch.  Nothing else is added - no goat cheese or nothin'.  We have already busted through two packages of kale salad less than 24 hours after purchasing it.

Homeschool-type question of the day:

After DD's online Latin class ends at 12:30, we are going to the big city to watch the 3-D version of Pan.  Is this 1) a beautiful example of the sort of mother-daughter bonding that homeschooling is so incredibly well-suited to supporting and encouraging, or 2) powerful evidence that I am of the variety Momicus slackericus magnificat?

There.  I promise that I shall speak no more relevance today.

(ETA:  punctuation correction.  Which may tend to indicate that option #2 is the more accurate.)

I'm not seeing the appeal in this Dun Cow book.  Please someone explain it to me.  At least DS seems to like it.  Although he fell asleep two nights in a row during the reading.  He's never done that before,

I had to google it.  I must confess, it sounds interesting.  I love allegory, though.

How old is DS?

DS is 8.  He's not the one having an issue with it, though.  I am.  I normally like allegory.  This to me is falling flat, and I can't explain why.

ETA: I've only ever given up on one book in my life (The Fountainhead), so I will continue to read it to him.  But I'm going to have to pick something really good for the next book.

Dun Cow - I put it in my wishlist, but didn't purchase yet, so I can't help.

Jean - sorry you are swollen.  Give us an update when you get home.

Tex - I'm back to CLE with my 10yo ds after a brief stint in Singapore.  I really knew better.  But I got all excited about more conceptual math last spring and had a fling.  I'm back to my steady now.  Same with 12 yo dd, except her steady is Saxon.**

Slache - I've never used SL, but all I ever hear is how great the books are.  Bummer you're not liking it so far. **

** Just contributing to curricula conversation.

For real. I'm not even homeschooling.

My place of work has a top chef training program. And they operate a few cafes. The under $10 menu is a four star meal for under ten bucks--and it's mostly organic.

But I am supposed to bring a lunch because finances.

GO.  And think not another thing of it.

We just finished reading "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch" - I had forgotten what a boring book that is.

HERESY.  I absolutely love Mr. Bowditch and have now read it aloud twice to dc.

This is our first foray into CLE.  Singapore was fab for a couple of kids.  This kid drowns in math and cannot retain anything.

(For Ms. Jean) These are not all entirely "Zone" but all are close.

Mix together for 5 minutes

Pour into slow cooker

1 can chopped tomatoes

5 cups chicken stock

Add to slow cooker

Cook on low for 6 hours

2 cans beans

2 cups baby spinach

2 cups zucchini

1 cup cooked bowtie pasta

Cook on high for 8 minutes

Top with pesto and parmesan cheese

Crawfish Etouffee

Add flour to hot oil to make a dark, chocolate colored roux, stirring constantly.

2 tsp Joe’s Stuff seasoning blend

4 cups chopped onions

2 cups chopped celery

1 cup chopped green pepper

1 Tbsp. chopped garlic

Add seasoning blend to roux, along with onions, celery, green pepper, and garlic.

2 cups chicken stock or flavored water

Get chicken stock piping hot, and stir in roux gradually until blended well. Cook for 20 minutes over medium heat.

stir to combine then top with the cream cheese.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours, stirring one or twice

to blend in the cheese.

Shred the chicken into large pieces

You know, I vaguely remember my boys needing more fraction help and doing two different books in the summer.  Must add these for little dd.  Someone put this on the reminder list.

So far we have:

Susan must floss daily.

Renai must report in with blood pressure readings twice daily.  (and she missed this morning)

Tex must add fraction programs for little dd.

Anyone else need a reminder?

This would make a great signature.  Then we wouldn't have to find the list again.

Reporting in as ordered, Ma'am!   :gnorsi:

I whined at my specialist appt.  it was actually probably fortuitous that today is an especially crappy pain day because I didn't brush it off like I do when I can't quite remember what the bad days are like.  Pain is always so hard for me to describe.    She was very nice and listened to me and did not give me a dismissive "there, there".  Since she is a neurologist, she upped my neuro med but I'm not sure I'll up my dose or not - side effects lay me flat.

Then dh and I had an appointment with Banker Bob.  I, like Queen Victoria, was not amused at him being late for our appointment.  He was then flustered and disorganized under my disapproving gaze.  He redeemed himself a little bit by the end of the appointment.  Dh was on his side and said that it was his boss who I should be mad at since he didn't tell Banker Bob all the necessary deets.

I have no idea why we love it. I love Mundo Cani's mournful howling, and how the liturgical and mythical aspects are intertwined.

You are not required to finish it. Let it go. :)

This morning, I awoke and began getting dressed before I remembered to take my bp. So, about 10 minutes later, it was 131/100. Not too good. But, I had woke up at around 2 a. m. and couldn't get back to sleep until around 4 or 5 something. My alarm went off at 6.

I just finished checking it, and it's at 138/103. At least it's not getting too much worse. I run off work to make it to my Spanish conversation class. And it ended about 15 minutes ago. I do this class relaxed on my bed with the laptop and a headset. This is the kind of paying job I would like to have. :D

I shall persevere. But is Cani pronounced with a long i or an ee? I keep switching back and forth!

Just ask for two at the beginning next time. And make him a drink while he's cooking.

Nobody doted on me during pregnancy. Another casualty of my marriage. Man, the guy I have now is just so wonderful. So sweet. So kind. So helpful to make extra spaghetti for the week. So good in the sack.

I don't think I've ever been doted on.  I was coming home from giving birth the last time and dh asked me what was for lunch.  I pointed out that I had just given birth so he stopped at Old Country Buffet.  I guess that was being doted on but I still had to hobble around there with my plate and get my own stuff.  My sister almost went through the roof when she called that evening and I was making spaghetti for dinner.

I have a good husband.  He just doesn't dote.
