Miranda
Hi! I am trying to decide on a Latin program for my 8 year old daughter. I am not sure which will be the best for her age. Also I do not know Latin myself at all. Thanks! Miranda
Miss Tick
Have you done a search of the board? There are quite a few Latin programs out there, although, for an 8yo the two that come to mind are Getting Started With Latin (GSWL) and Song School Latin (SSL). We've been using GSWL this year with my soon to be 9yos. It is a nice, gentle introduction. I like the way it introduces one new thing in each lesson. We do a fair bit of it orally. I also tie it into our Spanish studies. I'm no Latin expert, so you may be able to turn up other options with a search. Good luck!
MamaSprout
My 8 year old "loves" Lively Latin. I did not know Latin (know French and did college Linguistics) and it works great for us.
SilverMoon
My 8yo uses Latin for Children from Classical Academic Press. Level A of this course was *my* first Latin course. My now 8th and 9th graders used it many moons ago, and the materials were good enough for me to learn it right along with them. The one time we were all truly stuck we used the "Ask the Magister" button on their website and got an answer from the author of the series within two days. Momling
Minimus was a huge hit here! It's perfect for that age -- a light, fun taste of Latin that will whet her appetite for more.
EndOfOrdinary
Check your local library and see what they have available. Ours carries both Latin for Children and Song School Latin. It would be a free way to see which approaches she might like. It could also give you a dialog for what she might be thinking and what you want. Staceyshoe
We use Latin For Children from Classical Academic Press. I could learn alongside ds, but we've chosen to make it an independent subject.
gracesteacher
We are using Song School Latin 1 for our co op of 7 to 10 year olds. We have added to it writing stories and latin verb and noun declensions. We have recently added Minimus. Our kids are having a blast!! LLMom
There are so many choices out there, but I like Prima Latina from Memoria press with the accompanying DVD's. These are so helpful for the mom if she has never had or taught Latin.

I am using a phone and can't find the agree smiley, but I agree with this...Prima Latina with the DVDs is a good place to start for an 8 year old...It teaches both of you, has a clear plan each week, and progresses nicely... skimomma
We also used Latin for Children (LFC). My now 10 yo dd is finishing up LFC C and I was able to learn right along with her. It aligns very well with FLL grammar. I think it is a tough program and we have slowed it down here and there over the last three years. But I do think it is a very solid beginning. EKS
My son loved Lively Latin at that age. And just as an aside, MCT's Grammar and Sentence Island meshed extremely well with it. For you, I'd recommend a quick run through Getting Started with Latin before starting whatever program you end up choosing.
Halcyon
Lively latin.
Sobeknofret
We've been using Song School Latin 1 and 2 for this year, and Darth loves it. I do know Latin well, and I think it's a gentle and fun intro to the language for kids. I'm about to kick it up to Latin for Children A in April though. KAM
Mine uses Lively Latin. It can be a lot of writing for him, but we do as much as we can orally or I act as his scribe sometimes. He loves the online games.

KrissiK
We love Memoria Press's Latin program. Started Prima Latina in 3rd grade with my boys and am planning on doing the same with dd next year. We use the DVDs and I learn right along with them. It's a solid program.
