Jean in Newcastle
I've been invited by e-mail. I'm just wondering when formal invitations typically are mailed.
Arcadia
We typically receive the formal invites at least a month before the wedding.

bettyandbob
4 to 6 weeks, usually closer to 6. If I get one in less than 3 weeks, it's a sign that I'm on the "b" list, whether tht has significance depends on my relationship with the couple. Kelly1730
We sent ours out at least 6 weeks before the wedding in order to get the response cards back in time for planning.
unsinkable
I think 6 weeks.

prairiewindmomma
Six weeks.....and if you're expecting me to travel very long distances, I would expect to have received a save-the-date card months in advance.

Blessed Mommy
You were EMAILED an invite? I find that a bit tacky (no offense to you)! Anyway, proper etiquette is 6 weeks.

Oh,, it wasn't quite like that. It's my niece and I had gotten an e-mail from my brother when she was engaged that told me when the couple were planning to get married. It's just about six weeks now so I'll start to check my mail for an invite.
QueenCat
Around 6 weeks.
Ellie
Four to six weeks. If it's someone I care about, who really would like me to come, I'd have known the date for much longer and could make travel arrangements and whatnot.
Lilaclady
6 weeks I will say. If it involves travel, they might send a save the date up to 5 months in advance.
