LOF is to math as "fill-in-the-blank" is to language arts

Seriously, LOF makes math so much fun for my non-mathy kids. I need something fun for this non-language arts mom!

I realized recently how important it is that I enjoy the curriculum. Any interesting, non-dry language arts programs?

I've tried IEW and don't want to go there again. I'd love something all-inclusive (spelling, grammar, writing) that does not take a lot of teacher planning time. This would be for elementary and middle school.

Suggestions please!!

Have you looked at Michael Clay Thompson (Royal Fireworks Press)? It has grammar, vocabulary, poetics, literature, writing, which are all supportive of each other (you will find poetics mentioned in grammar and vice-versa) and although teaching is parent-intensive, planning is pretty much open and go if you can improv at least a little (but discussion prompts are given to you). The biggest planning time would be pre-reading if you include any literature units.

I believe she's referring to this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Word-Snoop-Ursula-Dubosarsky/dp/0803734069/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346861264&sr=8-1&keywords=the+word+snoop

Ooh, or how about this!! : http://books.google.com/books/about/The_Return_of_the_Word_Spy.html?id=v5M1QwAACAAJ

ETA one more time: Okay, I looked up these books. They are both written by Ursula Dubosarsky and were first published in Australia. If you look at the first book here: http://www.penguin.com.au/products/9780670072279/word-spy you'll see that inside it is the same as "The Word Snoop" above. I'm guessing that it is the American version of the same book. You can get it on Amazon.com.

Here is a link to the second one, also in Australia: http://www.penguin.com.au/products/9780670073542/return-word-spy-funny-and-fantastic-voyage-language-grammar-and-beyond

Word Snoop looks nice, but I also have a few other books that cover similar ground including Word Works (Brown Paper School book) and Childcraft's Magic of Words (1975 annual), and Wordplay Cafe (part of the Kids Can! Series) so I am not sure it would introduce much that's new.

I am all ears for suggestions in this thread.
