Runningmom80
Where did you get your table? I have a tall 5 year old, and he's too big for our little table and chair set, but we don't have room for a huge table in our homeschool space. I need something kid sized, but not toddler sized. extendedforecast
Ours is from Ikea. This one is ours. The kids like that they can write on the table with dry erase markers. I like that it was cheap and lightweight. We've had it for two years and it's still in great condition. ETA: I see that this is for one child. Our table wouldn't be practical for one child. Sorry OP. punkin
We bought ours from Sams. It is 4 ft wide and has adjustable height. We have a small area too, so this table fits perfectly.
mlktwins
Mine are from Ikea. We are using these http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80071164/ with these adjustable legs http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60105301/ I have a table for each boy and one for the computer. My boys are 6.5 and I love that these will grow with them. We also got the swivel chairs that can be raised or lowered http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29884547/
itsheresomewhere
I use a dinning room table from craigslist. It is nice and 36 x 60ish. What about a desk if you don't have room for a table. Student desks are cheap and not large. bluemongoose
We got one of these from Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80180035/ It has a single drawer. They have a slightly bigger model that has an additional drawer and some shelving on the side. Our schoolroom couldnt fit enough desks in that size though. Each of my kids has one of these desks, and they love that they have their own drawer.

mcconnellboys
My oldest was tall, too, and I bought a six foot table years ago. It's one of those long tables you see everywhere at churches and other public places. Mine is an older, particle board covered in laminate, rather than the lighter plastic ones they make today. While it is heavier, we never had to move it around. It did fold in the middle and lock with a carrying handle, so if we would have had to move it around, that would have made it easier. The lighter plastic ones they make today have a very rough texture on the surface. I'm not sure how that would work out for writing.... We used ours as a partners' desk, with one padded folding chair on one side down at one end, and the other on the other side down at the other end. It worked out well for us for many years and we only stopped using it last year, when we rearranged our upstairs furniture and made a smaller school room for my younger son. *Lulu*
Ours came from a local church that was having its children's wing refurbished. They were giving away the old, but still perfectly usable, furniture. Sometimes free is good. :001_smile:
jackson'smama
ours is an old pine dining table that we found at a gift shop (used to be used for display purposes i assume). we cut a few inches of the legs off for appropriate height and we saved them. so when the kids are bigger, we can screw them back in place. 25 dollars, sturdy, perfect size
KungFuPanda
We have this one. It adjusts from child, to table, to counter height.
LucyStoner
We did a small leaning desk that is mounted to the wall. I got it used from Craigslist but it is originally from Storables. Here is a picture: http://pinterest.com/pin/255016397619533724/ It is adult sized but very compact.

Hoggirl
We had a student desk at that age. Purchased it at an office supply place. Cheap.
higginszoo
My 6 year old uses a basic cheap IKEA table. The rest of the dc are at the picnic table that dh grew up with -- standard 'redwood' with two long benches. The little one will be moving up soon, I think. Dmmetler
I got an actual school desk for DD from classroom furniture.com, which she loves, and everything else we either do on the floor or in the kitchen if we need space.
plansrme
I am going to suggest focusing on a chair, rather than on the table. We have regular-height Ikea tables and a built-in desk, but the key for the youngest child is an adjustable chair, also from Ikea. That way, we put him at a regular table and just adjust the chair as he grows. Terri
Runningmom80
Thanks for the help everyone! I definitely need a table, so I can sit with him. I may consider moving something out so it will fit. I wish Ikea was closer, it's a 2.5 hour drive. I don't know why, isn't this 2012? There should be one in every town!
