Since you have to see her every day, I would have let the gift thing slide. Weird, tacky, but not a huge deal. But the cookie thing was an outright lie and I'm pretty sure I would have to say something. "There must have been some misunderstanding at the party because DD was really sad that she didn't get to bring her cookies home. She said you told her they had to stay at your house. I tried to explain that you thought she chose to donate them, but I couldn't make it clear. Do you remember exactly what she said so I can explain to her how it was misunderstood? She has been really upset about this. Thanks!"

That mom is brilliant! She got gifts and cookies. I'm always amazed at people like that.

Maybe I can learn something from this weird event. I can have a "House Cleaning Party". I'll get the kids bring their own swiffers and a snack to share. They can clean while I eat. What do you think?

I think it's fabulous!

Will you register for your gifts? Because if it is your FIRST housecleaning party, you are entitled to and should certainly register!(because people will want to know what you want.)

Hey, I have an idea. I'll host a cleaning party. I'll get lots of little girls to come over and I'll show them how to clean a house, scrub toilets, stuff like that. Bring your own supplies and rubber gloves. ;)

Include little boys.

I'll be happy to send my boys to a party where they learn how to clean a house, scrub a toilet. I'll provide the treats that you can then feed to them as a reward/payment for good cleaning.

I might be out some good treats. But I'll gain two wonderful housekeepers.

Honestly my friend is a housekeeper and I think it would be great when my boys are older she gives them a summer job working with her. They will learn how to clean, and clean, and clean....:)

There is a mom in our neighborhood who is like this. I am pretty sure she has Bipolar Disorder. She acts noticeably erratic when she is pregnant, which makes me think she's gone off her mood stabilizers. Throwing a kid party and keeping the cookies would be right up her alley. We moms treat her with kid gloves, but we try to keep her kids involved in the community since they will clearly need stable adults to turn to as they get older.

Good luck with her! She is going to be a challenge.

Yeah... you know... I was thinking the same thing. '

I wondered why the other posters didn't notice the way the lady's described behaviors fit the pattern: it does seem "crazy." Something I've learned in my life (and unfortunately recently had the lesson driven home AGAIN) -- if something seems "crazy" it probably is -- and maybe a nicely worded, caring inquiry, can help them to get help.

So I think you know what the talk of the day was today.

One of the moms who child was at the party made every child a small plate of cookies for each kid and delivered them today. Very sweet. My neighbor is closer to God age as he calls it says the entire family is cheap and has always been strange. Her parents used to bring empty tupperware to church potlucks.

The mom who stayed said she was just speechless. She didn't know what to do. As for the toys- that mom stayed a few to help clean up and saw the crazy lady opening the gifts with her child.

All the moms and I are now going to avoid any and all invites from now on.

That really was very thoughtful of the other mother. Wow, empty Tupperware? :svengo:
