alternative to barbie dolls?

Recommended Posts

We have a few Barbies, but have steered the grandparents to Groovy Girls instead. They're totally different, because they're soft cloth dolls, though you can choose dolls with bendy limbs. We thought they were more appropriate for younger children, and IMO they're no different from Barbies in terms of how they can be played with...aside from their hair.

I don't think there is a good substitute.

Sorry.:D

(Loved Barbie when I was a kid, even as a tomboy)

Me too ~ along Barbie got tossed aside for a bit when I got my Jem dolls :D

for the question:

Ty Girlz? (do they still sell them? dd14 had some a few years ago…plush dolls that had codes like webkinz)

Polly Pockets? Strawberry Shortcake? (I saw those are back)

Oh I saw this pink vampire doll thing at Walmart - ok dd14 just said "they're called Monster High dolls"… it was pretty cool looking.

Do you sew? It's OOP, but often on eBay or Amazon: The Doll Book by Estelle Ansley Worrell has soft dolls you can sew that are the same size as Barbie and period clothes you can make for them or Barbie.

My daughter likes Barbie and Liv World dolls.

My youngest daughter likes to pull the wigs off the Liv World dolls....
