ereks mom
...getting teens (and their parents!) to be more physically active?
unsinkable
Maybe...but you can also use it to stream Netflix if you have certain components. So you can put a stationary bike or a elliptical in front of it & watch stuff while you exercise.
Koerarmoca
we use it for streaming, we tried to be "active" with it but we are more sit on the couch and play mario cart people. We do have a wii fit and I plan to use that for part of our P.E next year
Mom2J112903
YES! We LOVE ours and it has gotten my once very active turned not-so-active DH active again!
ereks mom
...get the whole family more active. I would definitely use it for PE; EK hates all sports. She's never even learned to ride a bike :001_huh:; for some reason, she was absolutely terrified to try when she was younger--might've had something to do with witnessing some of ER's more spectacular crashes, which he alone thought were "cool". :) She's a very "girlie" girl, and doesn't like to get sweaty or dirty. Anything I can do to get her up and moving more would be good. And of course, dh & I could certainly use the exercise too. Edited March 22, 2011 by ereks mom
ChristusG
Definitely! My exercise each morning (well, when I'm not sick from morning sickness) is Just Dance 2 on the Wii. My kids have the Nickelodeon fitness game. They are great!!
JFSinIL
didn't work that way here - it is our Netflix streaming device now!
oldskool
didn't work that way here - it is our Netflix streaming device now! This is us too. Lesley
bettyandbob
that was my plan, but we are mostly netflix streaming too. Occassionally, dd plays some games. Sometimes she asks me to play with her too. ETA: dd is my most active child, I was trying to get the boys more active, but it didn't work. Jen+4dc
My aunt lost 90 pounds using Wii fit. And, she's kept it off.:D
Veritaserum
We got Wii Fit Plus for Christmas and I assign it as part of school. We also use our Wii for other games (we've had it for four years).
HeyChelle
I'd choose the Kinect over the Wii. No controllers needed and it is NOT possible to cheat and play from the couch on the active games. Love, love, love the Kinect and I am NOT a video game person. You can also stream from it...
ItsJustMe
We recently got the Wii Fit Plus, and it's been a winner around here for the whole family. It's surprising what a great workout you get from it. The kids are much more active, and don't even mind it because it's fun and motivating. I think it's been worth it, but we already had the Wii, so we didn't have that expense.
Forget-Me-Not
Definitely, in conjunction with the Wii Fit! I love to set my kids loose on it when the weather is bad outside. The Wii sports (which was the game that came with our system) is pretty great on it's own too. My kids still put that one in and play it frequently. They love the tennis, golf and bowling. HSMom2One
I'm so glad I read this thread tonight! Why in the world didn't i ever think of using the Wii for P.E.? We have the Wii already, so now I'm going to have to add Wii Fit to the curriculum list for next year. Hot dang!! Blessings, Lucinda
Wheres Toto
We just bought it and we've definitely been using it for fitness. We have the Wii Fit Plus and one of the sports packages. My ds LOVES video games of any kind and there are a lot of fun things with the Wii Fit. He loves one of the Basic Run Plus activities where you jog following a kitten around. He gets all excited when it opens up new trails and he will do it 4 or 5 times in a row.
amo_mea_filiis.
didn't work that way here - it is our Netflix streaming device now! Same here, except our modem constantly has to be reset, so I get to send DD up the stairs to do so! So many exercise possibilities over here! LOL. Lady Florida.
Um, yeah. That's why we bought ours. And I really should dust off that Wii Fit board one of these days. ;) Actually I came home from a doctor appointment one day and found ds using Wii Fit. There are some fun activities on it. And even without Fit, there's the sports that I think comes with it - bowling, baseball, golf and tennis. Our Wii these days gets more of the sit on the couch kind of use than when we first got it. TXMomof4
My kids love Just Dance and they will keep up with Wii Fit for a few weeks at a time, then take a break. It hasn't worked so well for mom, unfortunately.
chai
Absoutely! My dd loves to use it and it is a good workout. We have Wii Fit Plus and Outdoor Adventure is a very active game as well.
