  1. Movies, Netflix/YouTube videos, and favorite books. I'd like to pad my library list with a few more options. And if this has already been discusses, I'm sorry. I would appreciate a link to that post. Thank You!
  2. Oooh. Label makers!! My list: Label Maker Post it note pads - the 4x6-ish lined ones. Post it stars and little sticky notepads  Post-it Flags  Highlighters and pretty sharpies 3-hole punch Laminator Excellent quality scissors Tab Dividers - the plastic ones with pockets Paper Cutter White Poly Erasers 3-ring binders Filler paper wtih the re-inforced edges - love that stuff.
  3. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com A little homeschool, a little food, a little misc.
  4. I don't dislike any of it as long as I stay caught up. But if I get behind. Oh my goodness - the PAIN of being behind. In that case I despise laundry and dishes.
  5. In drawers. But first I massively decluttered. I boxed up duplicates/infrequent use items and stored them in storage. I shop in that box first when I need a new tool. Anything not used at least weekly was pitched or stored (if I would be using it at holidays or replacing broken items). Good Luck!! If you need pictures, I love, love, love the blog A Bowl Full of Lemons.
  6. We use that exact same table. :hurray: Here is our messy homeschool room. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/2013/04/counting-costs.html Drench yourself in grace before you opent hat link. We just moved and still need bookshelves (planning built-in shelves with doors on each side of the window soon. Just need $$.) Our last home had built ins...
  7. Here are a few of my reasons. In short (very short), we want to raise our children into adults who love to learn and enjoy a relationship with our Lord. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/2013/04/why-do-we-home-school-and-how-did-we.html http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/2013/04/counting-costs.html
  8. :seeya: Waving back at you! Where? Craigslist! And the price was right. :001_smile: About every other night I would sit down and scroll through searches on craigslist for cabinets, hutches, armoires, etc. When this one popped up, I was in love. It very closely matches an antique dresser in our living room that came to me from my great great aunt - although this piece is quite new.
  9. Thank you to everyone for celebrating with me! Oh it is satisfying! We started school a couple weeks ago and everything is still neat and tidy. Huge improvement over previous methods of schooling in the dining area.
  10. Update! We have moved and have more space now. I am so thankful! Here is an updated post with some pictures. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/2013/04/counting-costs.html We school in the dining area - not even an actual dining room. One peice of furniture has made it all so much easier. Just posted all the pics on my blog. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/ But here is the cabinet that I bought that contains ALL the school and craft materials for 3 children, with additional space to add materials for at least one more child. I'm giddy with happiness! It's solid oak and lined in cedar.
  11. Thanks everyone. I like the content of MFW - or at least what we have done so far. Just not that I'm following someone else's schedule. :tongue_smilie: I was thinking if I did put my own schedule together, I'd be doing TruthQuest (history and reading/literature), Truth in Science, MUS, Spelling Power, Rosetta Stone (Spanish), and then I need to find something for English/writing. As for Bible, we would read through the Bible together with a 12-month reading plan picking up memory verses as we go.
  12. I like MFW. My only real complaint is that we often seem to be ahead in some areas and behind in others - which is kind of a perk of homeschooling, right? My daughter is an incredible reader, so anything she can do independently she does very fast. Anything that requires my help, we are not ahead in. :tongue_smilie: For instance the science part of Adventures? She just grabbed the science books and asked if she could have them, then breezed through all the assignments on her own. Same with any of the book basket books and history texts. But she didn't care for the music part, so we've yet to begin that even though we are now 3/4 through the curriculum and I'm now having to go back and pull out each music assignment so we can go through those. And then it drives my organized mind nuts b/c we are always flipping back and forth in the curriculum. So maybe we would do better with a non-boxed curriculum? Something where all the subjects were separate so that she can move more freely at her own pace? And then the subjects that we do together we can stay the course and not worry about flipping back and forth through the TM? We are scheduled to buy, then begin, ECC at the end of September so I have about a month to decide if I should stick with MFW or go rogue. Thanks a bunch.
  13. Thanks Samian. Funny you mentioned that. I have been planning to put in Expedit shelving from IKEA, but changed my mind. I would much rather have something solid wood. I'm also shopping for a new dining set and I want the woods to match, or at least coordinate.
  14. Your help appreciated. I've been shopping and stressing over this b/c I really *need* to be more organized this year. This year I have a 4 yr old, first grader, 4th grader, and possibly also an 8th grader. Not sure if she will be homeschooled or not. We homeschool in the dining room - a tiny dining room, sadly enough. Can you even call it a dining room? It's open to the kitchen - also very small. So it's not like it's a separate room and we do eat at the same table 3x a day. Last year I bought plastic storage drawers to house are materials and it worked, but it always looks messy. I'm on the hunt for ideal furniture for our storage needs. Solid wood kinds of real furniture. 1) We live in a front to back split:willy_nilly: Not an ideal home for homeschooling in the dining room. So anything tall - you will see the back of the furniture when you walk in the front door. Therefore it needs to be somewhat decent looking. No particle board backs. 2)I need shelves and drawers and I want hidden storage. No glass drawers. I want to be able to close up the books and eat in the dining room in peace. So... I've found some armoires that I like, but dh is worried about having to look at the back of furniture from the front door. Also worried about the open floor plan view now being ubstructed. So perhaps a buffet? Help a momma out. What would you buy for this space? Here is the space where I would put the furniture (the table is not there anymore). Our table is to the left of this space. Oh good grief. Sorry about all the typos and errors.
  15. Bring him into the kitchen and prepare food together. Cut out all processed foods for a while, maybe forever. My journey through allergies is on my family blog below. We have not dealt with feelings of being deprived because the kids always have something to look forward to. If they can't have someone's birthday cake, that's fine. They know we will be whipping up something in the kitchen together either before or after that party. As far as safe - I bring them into the shopping and preparation process. Teach them to read labels and double check for themselves. And always read labels. Even if you have bought the same item for years, you never know when a company will change the ingredients. Read labels everytime. http://mybluedaisy.blogspot.com/ And I don't blame him for skipping McDonald's. blech.
