simka2
Like the R&S ones, and various other's? I'm just unsure about all the options out there for leveled readers.

Beth in SW WA
I was given a complete set of the Harcourt Decodable Readers used at our local private Christian school. They are fantastic. Dd 6 reads a few each day. We have all the BOB Books as well. I taught 4 kids to read with these. Dd6 is making her way through the boxes. Chris in VA
Primary Phonics--similar to Bob Books. Veritas Press has the Phonics Museum readers, but I don't think you can get them separately.
Lori D.
Loved the old (now out of print) Ginn Basic Readers. You can still find them used at Amazon.com, Abe.com, Powells.com, etc. The best ones are for grades 3-6, and often include wonderful versions of classics, right at the child's reading level, plus folktales and stories from around the world -- and sometimes even excerpts from classic Newberry winners. Below are the list of titles with grade levels; the readers often have comprehension/discussion questions at the end of a unit; a page listing additional great classic books to look for; plus a wonderful glossary in the back of boldfaced vocabulary words used throughout the book. The enrichment books are collections of stories, with none of the additional resource materials in them. Yes, there are a few hokey old-fashioned "Dick and Jane" style stories, but overall, these are very charming and very nicely written. Be sure to get books with a copyright between 1950-1968 (older than 1950 or more recent than 1968, the books do not have the classics in them). Scroll down on this website and see pictures of the covers of many of the readers. Enjoy! Warmest regards, Lori D. GINN BASIC READERS Primer - My Little Red Story Book (1st primer) - My Little Green Story Book (2nd primer) - My Little Blue Story Book (3rd primer) - Come With Us (enrichment) 1st Grade - The Little White House (1st semester reader) - On Cherry Street (2nd semester reader) - Under the Apple Tree (enrichment) - Open the Gate (enrichment) 2nd Grade: - We Are Neighbors (1st semester reader) - Around the Corner (2nd semester reader) - Ranches and Rainbows (enrichment) 3rd Grade - Finding New Neighbors (1st semester reader) - Friends Far and Near (2nd semester 1reader) - Fun and Fancy (enrichment) 4th Grade - Roads to Everywhere (reader) - Down Story Roads (enrichment) 5th Grade - Trails to Treasure (reader) - Doorways to Discovery (reader) - Along Story Trails (enrichment) 6th Grade - Wings to Adventure (reader) - Windows on the World (reader) - On Story Wings (enrichment) Edited October 13, 2010 by Lori D. Farrar
McGuffey's Eclectic Readers (the old ones, not the ones redone by Eerdmans, and they're free online at oldfashionededucation.comChristian Liberty Nature Readers Christain Light Education readers All Aboard Reading stepped/leveled books Step Into Reading stepped/leveled books Welcome Books Rookie-Read-About series Abeka readers I was surprised no one had mentioned the McGuffy readers. IMO, the Step Into Reading, All Aboard Reading (as well as the Green Light Readers, the Hello Reading Readers, the Ready-to-Read readers, the I Can Read books, the We Both Read books among others...) can all be good resources and all have suggested levels labeled on them, but aren't the same as leveled readers since they don't have a specific progression. To add to the list, there's also the BOB books and the I See Sam books. Plus, there are leveled Hooked on Phonics readers that come with the program.
