WishboneDawn
Can I just say that I sort of hope they don't rebuild but leave the skeleton intact? I saw the pictures in today's paper and while I think the old statue looks rather cheesy (Poor giant Jesus, buried to his armpits) my modern art lovig soul thinks the underlying structure that survived is wonderfully poetic and attractive. OnTheBrink
So it's a strange Midwest thing, not a strange Ohio thing. :001_smile: Never thought about where the butter goes. I wonder if it is kept clean while they sculpt it, so that it could still be eaten? They could give it to the poor. LOL

It's now being called the Terminator Jesus because of the metal underneath.:lol:
angela in ohio
They could give it to the poor. LOL I know whenever we got food as a kid (when my dad was on strike too long,) we always got butter. I sure hope that's not where it came from!! Ewww... I know they keep it refrigerated, but someone has to touch it to sculpt it, and it's on the floor. Happy2BaMom
I just have to say.... ...this thread is awesome. I've had enough laughs to last me for a week. And I don't think I'll ever view another Jesus with upstretched arms in the same way again.....
Mejane
Although, if anyone in the future is wondering how to immortalize my memory please do not do it in bizarre statue form. I can see it now - Big Butter Mrs. Mungo with outstretched arms holding up a Mike's!

tex-mex
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lightning_strikes_jesus_statue Would your first thought be "hm, clearly we need something fireproof?":lol::lol: That story was funny... and yes, if we were on the church board, this topic of not having styrofoam as the main filler would be key. ;)

TX Bluebonnet
unsinkable no likey. Big, scary Jesus crawlin' out of ground scared me. That is hilarious. I thought it was a full body statue but no.... I do not understand that statue at all. No wonder He didn't like it!
Slartibartfast
Excellent point, asta. Although, if anyone in the future is wondering how to immortalize my memory please do not do it in bizarre statue form. I've also told my kids I do not want to be immortalized in a graphic on the back of their car. :tongue_smilie: Perhaps they can correct the grammar on road signs in your memory? Mrs Mungo
I skimmed an article about this earlier today that said something like, "Don't worry, I suspect the statue will be back in 3 days." LOLOL  I missed this the first time. Well, the Hustler store across the highway is just fine. This is what I'm saying. Scary to think of that staring at you when you go to get some midnight ice cream when you can't sleep. I can see it now - Big Butter Mrs. Mungo with outstretched arms holding up a Mike's! And a kitten in the other.:lol: OH dear, rotflmao. Perhaps they can correct the grammar on road signs in your memory? "The apostrophe does not belong!~in memory of a grammar nerd" That would be awesome! littlebug42
 That is hilarious. I thought it was a full body statue but no.... I do not understand that statue at all. No wonder He didn't like it! Actually the statue was not sticking just out of the ground but overlooks this reflecting pool of water. It actually looks more like he is drowning which my dh laughs about since Jesus could walk on water but is drowning in Ohio.
Saille
It made it look like the cross was sinking, too. I never thought about it before, but ds4 walked past the laptop, saw the "before" picture, and exclaimed, "Oh no! He dropped it!"
