Brigitte
Do you enjoy her books? Meh. I found that she gave far more information than one really needed. THere were too many side stories that bore no relation to the story at hand in the end.
Guest
They are certainly beautifully written, and I don't mind the fact that they are more centered on character and theme than plot-driven. However, I find the whole concept of Dalgleish -- the poetic, highly educated, sensitive detective -- hard to swallow. Same with Elizabeth George's Tommy, the titled detective. I can believe in their upper classness, but not so much the sensitivity, wide-ranging knowledge, literateness, good looks: the whole package. annabanana1992
I enjoy her vocabulary, and I am a raving anglophile. So... I like her books!
dangermom
Meh. I'm also a raving anglophile, but still...meh.
pooh bear
I enjoy her vocabulary, and I am a raving anglophile. So... I like her books! Meh. I'm also a raving anglophile, but still...meh. I'm English and I don't like her books. More plot, less character study.
OrganicAnn
I like them, but I like some more than others. I also like the dramatization of them on PBS. I've also read at least one novel of hers that was not a mystery.
LG Gone Wild
I liked the ones with Cordelia Gray, not Adam Dalgiesh. I haven't liked her books of late though.
Perry
Not really. But I read them anyway. I prefer Elizabeth George and Ruth Rendell.
Starr
We read them as well.
katilac
No, they move too slowly for me - not that I don't enjoy any slow-moving books, but the writing here isn't good enough to pull me in otherwise.
Lori D.
Have only read one P.D. James book so far: "Children of Men". Powerful and fantastically written; really thought-provoking. Really enjoyed it!
Laura Corin
I like them - I read them a lot as a teenager though and less now. Laura
Stacy in NJ
Children of Men which was not a typical suspense novel. The movie version was awful.
Merry
...maybe because I've had a lot of life experiences and know only too well the emotional pain her characters endure in the mysteries. TravelingChris
I love her books. I also like Ruth Rendell. I read mysteries all the time and I read ones that are not thought provoking but very easy reads and then ones that are thought provoking. I consider both PD James and Ruth Rendell in the second category.
