  1. Can't wait to hear what you think of this book; I've been eying it at B & N for months! It just looks daunting to me-lol
  2. oh, thanks, Katie. Have you ordered it from Amazon??
  3. Has anyone used this? Someone recommended it to me, so thought I'd get other opinions. thanks, s
  4. I think that you should so you can help me out- LOL I just finished Katherine by Anya Seton- loved it!
  5. I have ebook gift cards:party: I'm going to try to tackle The Lymond Chronicles after Christmas :001_smile::001_smile: Do I need volume I of the Companion Guide, Volume II, or both? Volume II is available on Nook, but I'm not sure it will cover what I need. susanar
  6. Wow, it is so hard to believe that my hs journey is ending after 12 years. Next week Ds will finish the courses that I facilitate. He will continue with CC this spring. Last week he received notice that he was awarded a full scholarship from his school of choice :001_smile::001_smile: I am a proud Mama! I began TWTM when he was in 2nd grade. These boards have been an enormous source of info and support. Thanks to all!
  7. Hey there kwikimom and i love lucy! I'm 5'11" and just joined WW on Tuesday. When dh and I married 18 years ago I weighed 128- I've gained 43 lbs!!! I'm trying to loose 20 lb. I hope that my age (52) doesn't make it more difficult!! How are you two doing now?? **I know that this thread is old, but I was searching the boards for a book and stumbled across it-LOL
  8. Any suggestions for a weekend mystery read that isn't too racy?
  9. We only used one Apologia text, and I think Jay Wile co-wrote the book. My ds is a senior now, so I don't remember much, but I did hear him speak at a conference and chatted with him afterward. Funny, because I remember being struck by his humility. Maybe it is how the writing comes across?
  10. Ds, a senior, is so glad testing is over! He increased his score one point which was what he needed to apply for the highest scholarship at his college of choice. He hoped to gain two points-but it's good enough for me!! Now we start the process for dd who is a junior.
  11. we will begin LL speech on Monday. I just finished entering the lesson plans to the computer. I'm impressed with the book and the course!
  12. I liked Doomsday and To Say Nothing (I thought it was hilarious, but then again, I read it on 30 hour plane trip, so maybe I was delirious:001_smile::001_smile:) My sil loved the Outlander (or something like that) books, but they were toooooo racy for me
  13. We used ALEKS online as a supplement. Long ago they had a 30 day free trial:001_smile:
  14. In the past, I've purchased Spark notes study guides online. They are ok and get the job done, but I'm open to trying something else. I think the Fah 451 study guide by Progeny Press is EXCELLENT, but their Frankenstein guide was just so-so. (with PP, it depends on who wrote the guide :001_smile:). My ds is a senior who has done literary analysis since 9th grade :tongue_smilie: (can we say overkill??), so I'm looking for depth for discussion not analysis. Do you have a favorite guide for : The Time Machine (I have a Signet classic guide I found online, but would like something more in depth.) The Martian Chronicles 1984 That Hideous Strenght Does one exist?? Thanks :001_smile: ETA: Several years ago, I listened to an excellent MP3 lecture on Til We Have Faces. I've tried to find something on That Hideous Strength, but I've haven't as of yet.
  15. Thanks, everyone. I look forward to this year, which starts tomorrow!
  16. A bit off-topic, but I ordered Hewitt's Speech course for ds who is a senior, and after looking it over, I will definitely include it in English. It uses the book Lend Me Your Ears, which contains famous speeches from throughout history. The course looks very meaty- I look forward to it.:001_smile:
  17. I need one more book for our senior year- Which did you like best and why?
  18. I know this post is old,, but I am wondering if your sil would mind posting a bit of her insight to Gatsby? I would love to hear what she thinks I read it in Freshman Comp in 1976. Hated it; but that was then.....:001_smile:
  19. Congratulations! I know how you feel. This is ds's last year too. He is taking classes at the cc and a few at home. DD is a junior at the ps. I have ambiguous feelings. I will miss hs, yet I'm anxious for the next chapter of life.:) My oldest is 30- I've been "mothering" for a long time, and although you never ceases being "Mother", roles do change. It will be interesting!
  20. Sorry, I mentioned in the other post that he used Chalkdust precal last year, but i didn't mention it in my s/o question.
  21. I talked to the director of the cc today and she said ds's ACT score places him in calculus, not college algebra. On one hand,I think it would be a bit intimidating to take cc calculus without prior calculus knowledge, but the cc might be a good opportunity and more relaxed than the university. Or we could do it at home, but to be honest, I don't think I've got it in me to try.... Now what to do?
  22. Kareni, He used CD precal last year.:001_smile::001_smile: (I mentioned that in my post) Gee, are you watching Eureka, too;) Just kidding
