  1. Pretty informal here. For science we're using BFSU at a slow pace. For history we just read. This year we used Children Just Like Me and lots of picture books about various countries and cultures. Next year I'm planning to focus on American history using Betsy Maestro's books and whatever else looks interesting at the library.
  2. How about MEP Reception Year? It's very gentle with lots stories and games.
  3. I did MEP Reception and RightStart A with my daughter at 4. Now she's 5 and doing RightStart B. She loves math and will ask to keep going when the lesson is over. If your child enjoys it, I don't see any harm in starting math at a young age. I also think it's completely fine to keep math informal, playing games and reading picture books (check out livingmath.net).
  4. I have an older kindergartener (5.5) who is really into academic stuff. Reading: She's reading well and almost finished with phonics (finishing up OPGTR now). I might start All About Spelling with her, or she might just read aloud to me daily. Handwriting: Handwriting Without Tears Math: RightStart B Science: BFSU (when we feel like it) History: American history picture books, especially Betsy Maestro Spanish: Salsa, Jose Luis Orozco songs, picture books, etc. And of course lots of art and read alouds, our favorites!
  5. I'm so sorry. Our dog was hit last year and I was devastated.
  6. My girls' names are both ranked between 100 and 200 and increasing in popularity.
  7. I'm happy with everything we've used, but my favorites are RightStart Math and Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding.
  8. My favorites are our read alouds, RightStart Math, Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding, and Handwriting Without Tears. OPGTR has also been very effective, but it would be too dry for us if we used it as written.
  9. We're using BFSU, and I'm really happy with it.
  10. Our plan for next year: reading: Finish OPG, various readers from the library, maybe start AAS/ETC? writing: HWT math: RightStart B lots of read alouds ...and informally/just for a fun introduction science: BFSU and garden club/nature study history: Betsy Maestro and other American history picture books Spanish: Salsa videos, Jose-Luis Orozco songs, picture books, etc. memory work: poetry of her choice
  11. I hope so, but I'm trying to keep an open mind.
  12. Thanks, that was very helpful! My daughter is just finishing up RS A and I have the same questions.
  13. The goal is 20 per class in elementary, 30 in middle, and 40 in high school.
  14. What level of MM would be appropriate after RS B?
  15. I don't care for earrings on babies, and my husband feels even more strongly than I do.
  16. My daughter is only 5, but I have to go with RightStart Math. I love the way it presents concepts (expecially place value). The other day my 2 year old asked, "Why Sissy do her math?" and her sister answered, "Because it's fun!" :)
