  1. I like the Usborne “What’s Happening to Me?” Books.
  2. Do you have your child do one section at a time with all the accompanying work? Sometimes that’s none and sometimes it’s 10 or more pages.
  3. I went to UAH (but didn’t graduate from there). I live in Huntsville and would be happy to answer any City related questions. It’s a city of mainly transplants. Upon meeting someone, it’s customary to ask where they are from, because almost no one is from around here. I was actually born here, but my parents are from Silicon Valley. They moved here because my father was a rocket scientist before he retired.

  5. He’s in the 9th percentile for processing speed. I can’t find his working memory score (he was uncooperative during the test, so they only reported what they get might be accurate, so it could be missing). But his nonverbal reasoning is 99th percentile, and there is a note that that may be a low estimate of his abilities because of his uncooperativeness. He’s frustrated a lot. Also, the test was when he was 6 and he’s now 11.
  6. When do you know it’s time to switch curriculum and when to power through?
  7. I second (third, fourth) the teaching of the skills required and making things more routine. Then, in the moment, I do what is suggested here. I don’t let my kids cry through their chores or school work. They go to their room and come back when we both agree they are ready to do their work. They usually apologize on their own for the over-the-too behavior. So, teaching calming skills and navigating when you are given something you really really don’t want to do is important, also.
  8. I recently started and I hate them. I’m going back to regular contacts and just use reading glasses as needed. What I don’t like about them? •they tear *really* easily. So many times I’ve had them tear in my eye and then I could find one side easily, but not the other. And the tear was jagged. •if you forget and sleep in them, you will wake up with your eyes gooped shut I had such high hopes for them. Maybe other brands work better.
  9. I’ve read what I could online, but I’m curious if anyone knows any more. I’m trying to decide if I should do the books or online.
  10. Prayers, Pink and Green <3 Was it a surprise? Did she get shots to help develop? (((For all the colds and hangover feelings))) On my agenda today: •coffee ✅ •find out what’s on my agenda and report back ✅ •meet with lawyer to finish up living will ✅ •son to therapy ✅ •make calm jar and calming basket ✅ •print thank you notes ✅ •clean off crate •collapse and store crate •buy safe •set up new desk
  11. Thank you very much for this and for including that it's seat work. My 7 hours (5th grade) includes exercise and lunch, dropping off his sister at school, science experiments (does that count?).
  12. I'm considering switching covers next year and we do 7 hours now and plan to for next year. (That's everything, including going for a walk and dance class) He's 11 (5th this year, 6th next) I also do require him to finish on Saturday mornings what wasn't finished before (it rarely happens, is usually my fault, and he seems to like it). I think I'm nervous that the new cover won't like what we do. I mean, it doesn't really matter, there isn't anything wrong with our old cover. I was after more accountability and maybe some friends, which the new cover has. They look over your stuff and make sure you're doing well (and are in fact homeschooling). The other cover just takes money once a year. We don't even turn in attendance.
  13. This is a last minute add-on idea: We do 3 Christmas mornings. 3 sets of needing trash bags and bows to be saved, where are the scissors, and the batteries, etc. ? I want to make 3 Christmas Morning Kits, but make them look nice. Any ideas of what all to add? Here's what I've got: •bucket for storing it all and bows if you save bows •roll of trash bags •scissors •AA batteries in a small case
