  1. I completely agree with this. Hubby and I went to see 'Paul' (movie about an alien and had the guys from Shaun of the Dead in it) and a woman brings in three boys, probably aged 7-11 and sits them in the seats behind us and then walks away  It was very uncomfortable to sit infront of children and hear them laughing about jokes that should be miles over their head. *as an aside, the movie was overly full of curse words, incredibly raunchy and took a very harsh 'there is no God' stand. DH and I regret seeing it:glare:
  2. I do a mixture of both. Vaccuming and mopping/sweeping are considered tasks and are done once a week to the whole house. All other cleaning is done by room. Of course, this is all in theory for me because I don't actually clean often enough to know if this is the best way for me stay on task
  3. I am the same way. I watched the tv shows in college and I have seen the movies, but DH can't stand them.
  4. I second the Clevercat box. We have two cats who like to kick up litter and a dog that likes to eat litter and this box works great for us. It completely keeps the dog out and and the mess the cats make has gone down by probably 95%. We love it! We recently have started using it without the lid because our male cat is large and didn't like his head hitting the top, but it still works the same.
  5. I think that they should pick whatever name they like. With that being said, if they plan to make the US their new home, they might want to stick with a name that isn't too hard for english speakers to pronounce. I have lots of friends who are first generation Americans and, for the most part, they have names that show their heritage, but they go by a shortened nickname that is easier to pronounce.
  6. When do you need boxes by? My family has a large firework company and in the next two weeks will will have so many empty boxes. We are in the DFW area too... pm me if you are interested. :)
  7. I would recommend Crocs. I always have plenty of room to move my foot around and they super easy to slip on... plus they are very comfy.
  8. I can relate to the lurkers... I have been around for awhile, but I don't post too often... I just personally like to stay in the shadows.
  9. I am shocked that everyone doesn't love Sonic as much as I do... what is wrong with the homeschool community here?!?!?! I'm having an ocean water craving right now, mmmm. As for service, I guess it depends on where you live. We have several in our area and don't have a problem with any of them. Ours all take a normal ammount of time to get food. I worked as a car hop in highschool and Sonic is a 'we don't make it till you order it' fast food resturant. That might explain why food takes a bit longer to come out. If I am paying in cash, I give a small tip; but if I pay with my CC, I only leave a tip if I have a few extra quarters around.
  10. hahaha, I was pulling up this video to post. It is a wonderful piece of marketing and a Toyota will last forever. I can't comment on how they drive though; I drive a Pacifica.
  11. Nothing to add, but I glanced at the thread title and thought it read: 'Need good home for 15yob and 12yog' I clicked the thread title to take a peak at why you were ready to send your teens off to someone else:D
  12. I voted to give it away. I read this book 5 or 6 years ago and I don't remember it being disturbing, but then again, I don't remember much of the details of the last chapter. Now I have to decide if I should dig out my copy and re read it...
  13. Glad you posted this. My mom wants to get my DD an Explorer, even though she has a Leapster AND a hand-me-down DS... neither of which she plays with often. I think I read that the Explorer will connect to the internet through your computer to download stuff from the Leapster website. :bigear: I am sure someone on the board has one and can tell us more.
  14. My brother and I used to play this game in the car on long trips... and you don't need any materials. We call it the cow game, so it is obviously best played when driving through the country. You simply count all the cows you pass on your side of the car and whoever has the most cows when the game ends wins. We also had a rule that if you pass by a cemetary on your side then all your cows die and you start from 0... but that rule doesn't have to be apart of the game depending on how sensitive your kids are. I know it sounds simple and probably boring, but DH and I still play sometimes in the car:lol: Whoever is driving will typically cheat and take roads home that pass by a cemetary on the passengers side.
  15. We have 3 cats and 2 of these litter boxes: http://www.petco.com/product/14467/Clevercat-Top-Entry-Litterbox.aspx?cm_mmc=GooglePKW-_-22-Clevercat%20Top%20Entry%20Litterbox%20(426822)-_-[clevercat+top+entry+litter+box]-_-xxx It is a Clever Cat top entry, and I love it so much. I have tried a ton of litter boxes.... shallow with a cover, deep with no cover, automatic... nothing worked the way I wanted it to till now. Yes, It is stupidly costly for what it is... a plastic tote with a hole in the top, DH was a bit frustrated with the purchase, but I felt it was worth it. This keeps the dog out of the litter and the litter in the box. I have one cat who likes to kick litter all over the place and it is impossible for her to kick the litter out now.
  16. This is exactly us... my parents are very financially sound and would be able to help at a moments notice, while DH's family still struggles to help themselves. We live in my parents old house (it's completely paid off) and pay rent ($350) to them, so we are currently saving for a downpayment on a house and if DH lost his job, we would just stop paying rent and go into survival mode.
  17. I stumbled across this blog the other day and it looks great. It is super cute and the desserts look so yummy. http://bakingdom.blogspot.com/ This might give you some ideas.
  18. Avonlea... I loved this show! Kids Incoporated Salute Your Shorts Fraggle Rock Boy Meets World Small Wonder Reading Rainbow I was a 1981 baby... my older brother loved Quantum Leap and The Wonder Years, so I watched that with him sometimes.
  19. Some of our favorites include: Make way for Ducklings The Napping House (my personal favorite) I'll Love You Forever The Raggedy Ann and Andy treasury (DD loves this and we have read through it a couple of times)
  20. Knock out a little over a half of DH's student loans...
  21. I will join in. My tasks include: Cleaning out two closets Gathering toys to take to Goodwill Cleaning out the utility room... I can only imagine what treasures might be stored behind my washer, dryer and freezer:glare: Clean light fixtures and dust fans. I didn't notice how dusty the fans were till it started cooling off here and we didn't need them on all the time while we were home
  22. It isn't flashy, but I make homemade lunchables for my DD. Usually turkey pepperoni, cut up cheese, crackers, cut up fruit and some celery with peanut butter. She loves them and it's cheaper than a lunchable, but still easy to make. We have them at home, but it would be easy to pack.
  23. God in 3 persons Water, Steam and Ice This is how it was presented to us.
