  1. It took me about 3-4 months to read all of DQ, and while I'm glad I read it, I certainly won't be reading it again  I did have the lofty goal of reading all the books in WEM but there are a few I just couldn't get all the way through--Gulliver and Pilgrim's come to mind. Now I'm halfway following the rhetoric recommendations in ToG for my reading list. Right now I'm reading Austen for the very first time! So where is this group? Maybe I'm already part of it and never check, lol.
  2. We've had years that moved slower than others, but continuing to plow through has been beneficial. Remember that in history, one thing leads to another, and later events are caused/impacted by earlier events, so skipping ahead isn't always going to be helpful as kids try to make connections. Plus, studying Greeks and Romans is just fun!
  3. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: So terribly sorry for your loss. My dd and I just did the headstone for her husband about a month ago. A nice, quality headstone might run about $500+. We did the wording above his name and a Bible verse below, so that was some additional cost. I think my son-in-law's was about $700, but it includes quite a bit of extra. Maybe think ahead about what you want the stone to say and if there are any symbols that are especially meaningful.
  4. EO, but apparently I haven't posted so I can't vote ;)
  5. If he's interested in soccer, let him play :) What's the worst that could happen? Our kids started in gymnastics while they were still in diapers with the parent-tot class and progressed from there. One dd stayed with it and is training for L7, and the other dd peeled off to try soccer at age 4 (she's now on a club teams and LOVES it!)
  6. Yes, multiple times. And now that I have an Orthodox Study Bible, I recently finished all the books of the Septuagint that I hadn't read before. I love, Love, LOVE reading Scripture. The more I read and soak it in, the more I want to read. I'm also inspired by St. Seraphim of Sarov who read the NT through weekly. It makes me realize my efforts are pretty puny and I have a ton of room for growth!
  7. I always attach. I hadn't really thought about pasting it into the email but that's a good idea too.
  8. I do love checking out everyone else's projects.
  9. Milk! I'm not sure where or how to get it because it came pre-installed on my phone.
  10. Several years ago I was required to go door to door for my job (investments) and I didn't realize how much negativity there was out there! Thankfully people were much kinder to me than what I see represented here.
  11. We started with SSL, then moved to Minimus, LL, and now finishing up Minimus Secondus. So yes, kiddie Latin worked well for us because now reading/translating Latin is second nature. No arguing, cajoling or struggling--it's just what we do :)
  12. We did the same thing when we found a snake curled up on our doorstep in the middle of the night. Not knowing a thing about snakes, dh killed it (amazing what the man can do with a rake and a yardstick!) and we didn't find out until later that it was non-venomous. Better safe than sorry!
  13. My daughter and her husband set one up that helped her remain at his side the last few months of his life. So I feel compassion for people who find themselves in a predicament where the GFM is a lifeline.
  14. Even though it's not necessary, some people tip my DH--a Schwan's man--and we are very grateful :)
  15. Yes. Random heart palpitations. It's scary and it sucks.
  16. Usually I am a good sport, but this year I'm just annoyed. The kids already swapped out my creamer with flour and taped the toilet paper roll together. Apparently they aren't finished. Sigh...
  17. I'm throwing virtual rotten tomatoes at the mom for you! :/
