  1. I love thyme, especially fresh. I use it in lemon/honey glazed carrots and in chicken noodle soup. Chicken pot pie with puff pastry sounds delicious--worth getting more chicken if at all possible. If you can't get more chicken now, maybe later? Thyme keeps pretty well if packaged properly and kept in the veggie drawer of the fridge.
  2. We have a wall of white Billy bookcases. We have two tall ones on either end with the glass front doors and three short ones in the middle with solid white doors. We bought them way before we bought our current house and they've moved with us several times--definitely no regrets.
  3. My daughter recently got that backpack. It's a little big for her now at age 10 but I anticipate she will quickly grow into it and use it for many years. I think it's a great size for teen and up. I carried it around during our recent vacation and I was able to adjust it to fit comfortably--I'm 5'2". The bag seems to be very durable and the company's warranty is generous. ETA: My husband also carried this bag around with no problems. Even though it may say 10 and up, it's not a little kid bag.
  4. After seeing a demo and tasting yummy super-smooth whole fruit juice, I'm seriously considering a Blendtec. Costco has it on sale on their website right now for a really good price ($369 including a bonus large pitcher). If I don't get that, I might get a refurbished Vitamix 5200. I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. I think either would be great for the smooth texture you are looking for.
  5. My mom kept me from cutting my hair when I was younger. As a teenager, when I wanted to cut my hair she pressured me into keeping it long. I was a good girl, so I did what she wanted. When I was living on my own, I finally cut my hair--first to shoulder length, then pixie-short. My mom hated it and told me as much. I continue to go between pixie and shoulder length and LOVE it (so does my DH)! I resent all those years that my mom tried to force me into accepting her definition of what makes me feminine and beautiful. What is the harm in letting your DD take a chance and letting her decide what she thinks of the outcome? From the perspective of someone who was in your DD's shoes in the past, I wish my mom had let me take those kind of chances.
  6. You could contact the restaurant directly for an ingredient list. But even then you may not find a definitive answer. Also, there may have been other triggers from preservatives or even the natural ingredients (for example, some people are highly sensitive to tomatoes with effects similar to dyes). Since it can be hard to find out precise ingredient information from many restaurants, we either stick to the Feingold approved list or we do trial and error. Through trial and error we found that my ds is okay with CiCi's but not Little Caesar's. I have no idea what the difference is, and while neither one is very healthy or natural, one triggers him and one does not.
  7. If I was going to buy a new carry-on, I would buy either another Travelpro (great brand, very durable, I've had my Crew series bag for years) or something like this Samsonite Spinner (looks like it could roll down the aisle and other narrow spaces).
  8. Psalm 63 -- Seeds Family Worship has , which has become one of my favorite worship songs ever.
  9. I would be contacting the children's pastor immediately--not as much because of the inappropriate conversation among children (like Dory mentioned, there are people with all different kinds of home lives and standards especially in a large church). My concern is that the teachers weren't doing their job and presumably because of that, inappropriate topics were not being reined in as they should have been. FWIW, we go to a Southern Baptist megachurch and the teachers are very engaged with the students. If they were using Sunday School as their own social hour, we would definitely be considering a different church.
  10. I'm not sure if cupcakes would work, but if so these Vanilla Buttermilk Cupcakes are great.
  11. I can't stand anything that dangles, sways, or interrupts my line of vision while driving. DH has a parking pass in his car that I usually take down when I drive it. We also have Sunpass stickers on the windshield, but we installed them so that they are mostly obscured by the rearview mirror.
  12. Was it Wendolonia? I'm always inspired by what she packs her sons for lunch (and how fun she makes it, too).
  13. Pondering...and not wholeheartedly agreeing. :001_smile: I agree with the value of teaching my children to finish what they've started and also of being so passionate and involved that one feels compelled to bring a work to completion. But there is also value in teaching that we won't always have time to finish a task before needing to move on to something else. In those cases, we work on how to find a good stopping point and how to continue on at a later time. We also work on how to make the best use of finite work periods. That said, I'm personally working on finding a balance of those two values in my own teaching. Previously, I had gotten into a habit of spending painful amounts of time on a couple of subjects at the expense of some of our other subjects. :blushing: I started to use Schedule Planner Pro to manage our daily flow. I began with the alarm enabled but disabled it after I got better at switching subjects on my own. This app serves as my reminder but I'm careful not to let it become my unyielding taskmaster. For this school year, I will probably use an alarm only for certain subjects--Math especially, because it helps my math-averse DD know that we will typically only spend only a set amount of time on that subject. It will serve as her 'light at the end of the tunnel'. I'm also playing around with IStudiez Pro for our schedule, and it also has an alarm feature. I found it tricky to try to make separate schedules (and thus separate alarms for different children) but it can be done.
  14. One of our favorite meals is stir-fry made with General Tsao sauce. I just saute diced chicken breast in a small amount of oil, add bias-cut carrots, then toward the end add the sauce, broccoli, and a bit of water. Sometimes I'll add different veggies (sugar snap peas are good). The sodium content in the sauce is high, so I try not to be heavy handed with the sauce. I serve with baked brown rice. Quick, easy, and so tasty!
  15. Typically, each person is allowed one carry-on (rolling suitcase, large duffel bag, etc that goes in the overhead) and one personal item (backpack, purse, etc that will go under the seat in front of you). There may not be a specific weight limit listed, but your carry-on needs to be light enough that you can lift it into the overhead bin yourself. There are also usually specific measurements that a carry-on cannot exceed to ensure that it will fit in the overhead bin.
  16. In most cases I appreciate the thought and can overlook when dh does things differently than I would. The one big exception is laundry. Dh has had too many mishaps--bleached clothes, shrunken sweaters, washed Pull-ups which created a huge mess inside the machine, etc--so I've declared washing/drying clothes off limits. He'll still wash things occasionally, which usually results in some type of mess that reminds him why he's been cut off from all laundry duty.
  17. We have leather seats. I was reluctant at first but have found I love them. Ours are easy to clean and very comfy even in our tropical climate. No problems with car seats, cracking, or 'swamp butt' :001_huh:  that others have mentioned. That said, in your case with your description of your options, it sounds like you are better off with the car with cloth seats and less miles.
  18. My husband (fluent speaker) and I (former English teacher) co-teach a Spanish co-op class. Last semester was our first time, so keep in mind we are still learning and are definitely not experts.
  19. When I make mashed potatoes I like them smooth and creamy, so no skins. Sometimes I will make "smashed" potatoes, which I leave somewhat chunky with skins still on. I usually use thin-skinned potatoes like reds or golds for smashing.
  20. In the interest of science :tongue_smilie:, I just weighed mine on my digital kitchen scale. 7 pounds, 2 ounces.
  21. I have the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw and love it. I bought it directly from HP on sale for $150 (stalked Slickdeals for months waiting for a great deal). I had it for a year before I needed to replace the black toner, and I haven't needed to replace the colors yet, although I probably will before the end of this coming school year. The print quality is wonderful, printing double-sided is very simple, and the output is pretty fast. I definitely consider it one of my best homeschooling purchases. I kept our old inkjet, which we use mostly for scanning/copying. DH will still print from it occasionally when he can't be bothered to walk upstairs where the laser printer is. ;)
  22. Thank you for the heads up! There are a few things I need from CBD, and I've been patiently waiting for a shipping deal.
