  1. If it were possible for my eyeballs to do a complete 360 degree turn in their sockets, the above quoted gem would have done it for sure. Wow. Just, wow.
  2. Okay, so we're using OPGTR and we are done with all letter sounds and starting the beginning reading. Ds is sounding words out, yet not blending the sounds into one word. For example "cat" will be sounded out "cuh-ah-t". And when reading words such as "hat" or "ram" with "at" or "am", etc., he sounds those out letter for letter, even though he knows the words "at" and "am" and so forth. Make sense? Is this typical? Is there something I can do to help him more fluently say the words, or is this normal for very beginning readers?
  3. We buy Maverick Ranch brand as well as Applegate Farms. I also noticed Oscar Meyer has a nitrite free brand last time I was at the store.
  4. Terribly unfortunate situation. I am curious though as to why you allowed your ds over there without being present, knowing what happened last time and considering all of the things you have going on right now.
  5. My avatar is Stan, Dorothy's ex-husband, from the Golden Girls. It is from one of my favorite episodes when Stan sees a psychiatrist to get over Dorothy. His psychiatrist gives him a traffic cone turned into a monkey to transfer his feelings to. :tongue_smilie:
  6. Huh. :001_huh: They are very likely laughing after "spanking" their dolls because *they* are probably used to hearing laughter after a spanking. Who are we to say how a small child or infant feels after being hit? I would venture to guess they don't like it, at the very least. :glare: Have you read any of their material? You do not think that hitting babies with plumbing line is abuse? How about waving their favorite food or toy in front of them and hitting them repeatedly when they try to reach for it? I could go on, but I'd really rather not think about the atrocities they subject their children and grandchildren to. :banghead:
  7. Anything Ezzo-based would not be worth one cent in my book. Flame away, I'm ready! :tongue_smilie:
  8. :o I read that part out of context. My mistake. Sometimes sarcasm is lost by me.
  9. So, I was reading the RS website and I noticed they mentioned that you should start RS with young children who have not yet developed the habit of counting in a traditional manner. We really have only been using Singapore Earlybird math. Ds is asking for more, he is definately ready for more. Has anyone had any problems with switching their kids to RS?
  10. :iagree: They would look weird if you painted them and left that triangle thingie white. (Sorry, I don't know the term for it either, so triangle thingie works ;) )
  11. I am disturbed by the tag (pot-stirring 101) on this thread. Seriously. :glare:
  12. :iagree: (but without the smile) The Pearls are disgusting. Those "parents" are disgusting. Ugh...that poor girl was beaten to death because she mispronounced a word in what sounds like a Frog and Toad story book. :crying: How could anyone beat a child to the point of cardiac arrest and death over such a thing, or anything for that matter? I truly hope they rot in jail.
  13. :iagree: I am really blown away that people are witholding food as a punishment for not picking up toys. Why would you do that? Seriously?
  14. Wow. Accept my child's discomfort? How can anyone just accept their child's misery and leave them to cry for hours? And to compare neccessary physical therapy to leaving a small baby or child to cry alone behind crib bars is absurd. It is absolutely not neccessary or right for a child to have to cry themselves to sleep and they will in no way be handicapped by being comforted. :glare: To the OP: CIO is so hard for (most) moms because it is telling you to go against every instinct in your body to comfort and hold your child. Babies and children cry for reasons, even if they are reasons that don't seem "legitimate" to us. Hold that baby. Enjoy this time. Both of my kids were lousy nappers at that age. I used to pace the floor with a 2 year old in my arms practically in tears from frustration that he wouldn't just lie down on his own and sleep. That 2 yr old is now 5 and I SO miss the days when he was small enough to rock to sleep like that. Go with your gut. You don't want to leave your child to CIO because it is wrong, so don't. Hold him or sit with him. Let him know you are there. Babies and children are not manipulating us at that age, I promise. ;)
  15. I am about to dig into Schrodinger's Kittens and the Search for Reality. For fiction, I am currently reading The Seance by John Harwood. I am digging it so far. ;)
  16. I absolutely can, and will make rules for my kids. Sorry, but there is just no way that I would allow my child to spend 7+ hours a day attached to some form of electronic device. No way, no how. :tongue_smilie:
  17. We are so excited! I read that it should be open by the end of 2011, though. I am hoping it is completed sooner! They said it is going to be the biggest Legoland worldwide. :D
  18. Good grief, you say it like it would be the worst thing in the world to have to come in contact with an intact penis. :001_huh:
  19. I think strapping a tiny baby to a papoose board and removing a functional piece of his genitalia is quite unhealthy, actually. The foreskin is there for a reason. I think that the way our culture views the intact penis is unhealthy. I don't care what organizations consider or recommend, tbh.
  20. Why were they looking in the 1st place? I can pretty much guarantee you, not many boys are going to want to be called out for checking out another guys member in the locker room. This whole scenario is so played out by pro-circers. It's quite ridiculous, too. :glare:
