  1. Youtube. For sure someone has a video about how to remove it safely.
  2. Has this cult finally gone to far? Original thread: Ignore this post
  3. The shocking truth about the goals of christian homeschoolers revealed. Original post: The Goal of Homeschooling (cc)
  4. Have you been boiling water all wrong? Learn secret tricks from the experts. Original thread: How long for water to boil?
  5. I live in Central America (not a country that has been mentioned yet). I would be happy to answer questions to you privately if you PM me.
  6. There is a big difference between not requiring *obedience* and ignoring your kids. I am not into punitive measures (for my kids), but I do model good behavior, pay attention to their moods, listen a lot, explain situations, hug and kiss, ask for suggestions, suggest solutions...I agree that if you have no guidance or parameters you might end up having a hard time with behavior, but this is different than requiring that your kids obey.
  7. My dd is doing Saxon 6/5 this year. She works for one hour. If she is still working on the lesson at the end of the hour we just stop and pick up where we left off the next day. After an hour of math her enjoyment and productivity go way down so this works well and she still gets a lot done.
  8. Also, even though lots of people have already said this, WATER! The more fiber he eats the more water he needs. My dd eats a lot of fruits and veggies and needs extra water to help digest it all. Once we realized that she needs more water than the average person, her potty problems went away.
  9. The Native population of California has been very vocal that this canonization is hurtful and offensive. The Mission system is still taught in California as a place that helped the savages become civilized, protected them from worse horrors, blah, blah, blah. One only has to scratch the surface of this revisionism to find out that the mission system was also a place of sexual abuse, slavery, disease and unspeakable horrors. While Juniper Serra may arguably have been the lesser of evils, his canonization was, at best, insensitive. For many people he is the face of genocide. I wanted very badly to like this pope but cannot for the life of me figure out how the Vatican couldn't come up with a less divisive figure to canonize on American soil.
  10. I really feel sorry for this dad. You are chaperoned by seven kids, hardly the setting for a romantic tryst. As for the gossipy mom, yuck. I admire this dad for taking on a female dominated role. I would hope that your community would support him rather than ostracizing him.
  11. I haven't seen the movie but am aware of the terrible havoc that large farms are creating on our planet. To help, we eat a vegan diet two days a week in our house. We try to tread lightly on the other days. I don't know how much this is actually helping, but hopefully some. I do like meat and feel much healthier when I am eating it, but I haven't figured out any other compromise that works well for our family. I will definitely watch the documentary.
  12. Heaven's Gate. They were trying to catch a ride on the Hale Bop comet. They were all wearing Nike shoes when they died.
  13. Why are they capable of carrying their junk to the car but not back to the house again?
  14. I am always annoyed when I hear someone use the word home when the word house would be perfectly fine. It seems like some time in the nineties people started saying, "We just purchased a new home." It feels like newspeak to me, like a sales pitch that took over. Other than that pet peeve, I generally like the evolution of language.
  15. When my DH and I eloped, I came home to find that my brother had made a walkway out of rose petals for us. We got to the end of the walkway and he had written a very funny and touching few lines as vows. It was perfect. A few months later my brother passed away unexpectedly. When I was going through his personal items, I found the original copy of the wedding vows he had written. There were so many scribbles and cross outs and redos. I cherish that little scrap of paper and think of the few minutes we walked down the rose-petal-isle as my true wedding. Congratulations to your sister. I am sure you will find a way to celebrate with her.
  16. What Kinsa said. I am surrounded by homeschoolers whose kids have LDs. The majority pulled their kids from schools because the system wasn't working for them.
  17. We just started with our K'Nex kits and are pleased so far. The teacher's manual has been very helpful to me.
  18. A mixture of Apple cider vinegar, raw garlic, honey, a pinch of cayenne pepper. A couple of teaspoons of this a few times a day will kill anything if it doesn't kill you. Also drinking tons of water with a few drops of grapefruit seed extract.
