  1. Oh! I didn't catch that in either of the articles I read. It all makes a lot more sense now. :o
  2. Totally agree! I just imagine a 13 year old feeling betrayed in the end... or being suspicious in the hours waiting at the police station.
  3. This is such a practical idea! One twin is a stuffed animal collector and she also has a bean bag. I think I'll empty the "beans" and fill the bag with as many stuffies as I can.   I love this method! Learned it from FlyLady, and I'll sometimes set a timer to keep me on task.
  4. IMO, the 13 year old deserved to know immediately. I understand not telling the younger kids right away, though. ETA: Just read another article. Didn't any of the kids (especially the 13 year old) wonder where the parents were for so many hours?
  5.  Good thing you didn't get accused of stealing it!
  6. The correct answer is B, though I sometimes use A when writing informally or when I'm jotting something down in a hurry.
  7. I like the "2" version because it brings back fond memories of penmanship practice in Catholic school in the 80's. :)
  8. :iagree: Forgiveness doesn't mean that what the person did is ok, nor does it mean that you accept their hurtful behavior. Forgiveness means you're letting go of the hurt they caused you.
  9. We got ours when oldest was 2, and donated it when twins were 7. I wish we had kept it longer because they still enjoyed playing with it. I was on one of my decluttering sprees and made a mistake. :o They still use the dollhouses at 11 (oldest played occasionally this past summer!) and I'm itching to donate those but don't want to do it too soon again...
  10. In my area, the going rate for both is $20-$25 per hour.
  11. It sounds like Saxon is not a fit for him.
  12. My loads are: Sheets Blankets Towels Couch slipcovers Bath mats Undies/socks Black/navy grays/blues/greens red/orange lights or prints on a white background whites delicates, dark and light :D  I actually don't mind laundry as a chore.
  13. 3 is very teacher intensive as you know. Perhaps jump to 5/4 if you have it, but 7 is young... If he's going to school in elementary, I wouldn't be concerned with him switching into Saxon from another program at home. If he were to go in the middle grades then I'd probably keep him in Saxon if I knew that's what they use. Sounds like you're only using Saxon because that's what the school uses. At home, use what you actually enjoy and like to teach.
  14. I don't have any experience with MM, but used the old spiral bound Saxon 3 with all 4 dc. I did it with my oldest the way you're describing it, because she was in 3rd or 4th grade - I can't remember - and I just wanted to zip through it. The twins did it in 2nd grade with their 3rd grade brother. It was super boring and repetitious at first, and they also told me every day that it was too easy, but eventually they started to learn new things. Lesson 40 isn't very meaty yet, but at the rate of 2-4 lessons per day you'll be getting to the good stuff quickly. :) Though the beauty of Saxon is the spiral repetition and you're not really getting that, nor does it sound like your son needs it. But he might at say, lesson 70 or 80... If you like Saxon and like teaching it, stick with it! But if you don't think you'll eventually slow down and do it "right" then switch. There's no point in trying to extract the basics out of an 800 page teacher's manual when another program will have it laid out for you.
  15. Which lesson are you on? Do you go through the entire sequence? Calendar, counting, clock, coin cup, pattern, word problem, facts practice, facts sheet, etc.? And then do the lesson plus lesson practice? I ask because you say you do 2-4 lessons per day in 30 minutes. One whole lesson should take at least 30 min. ETA: I just realized you're probably using the new 3, if so, disregard my questions... The old 3 gets very meaty even though it's slow in the beginning.
  16. I chose Atlanta simply for the very nice hotel. The older I get, the more I like to sleep in my own bed. If I'm going to sleep away from home, the amenities must be nice! :)
  17. We talk about our children and how they drive us crazy (in a light-hearted way of course). Seems everybody can agree on that. :)
