  1. This wouldn't count as a full high school curric but you might be able to just start with Getting Started With Latin by Linney. You could certainly hand it to your child to do on her own.
  2. I tried to use Lively Latin for 2 years and could never make it work - too cumbersome. My kids (12, 11, 10, 10) are now close to finishing GSWL because it's been easy and straightforward to implement. We are doing Latina Christiana 1 next with the DVD's. I'm not familiar with Visual Latin....
  3. Beast Academy is story based and includes elementary geometry, but I'm not sure if it would be enough...
  4. My kids appreciate stories with all the "real" details included. They want to know the truth about what happened in history without glossing over the sometimes gruesome details. And yes, we've had some nights when they needed extra hugs or "mommy-time" at bedtime.
  5. My DD 10 is a writer and uses both. She has stacks of filled notebooks and journals, and tons of files on her ipod. I can't imagine if either method would make any difference for creative writing - except that typing might be quicker at keeping up with and capturing her thought process/ideas.
  6. My kids use ixl.com during the summer and year-round. They can access any grade level, or focus on a particular skill/concept.
  7. The History of the United States Told in One Syllable Words by Josephine Pollard This book was written to teach reading in 1884 but it's a great read-aloud for this age.
  8. Ooooh thanks! I need the motivation.
  9. Stories from Shakespeare retold by Nicola Baxter It's a beautifully illustrated read-aloud for elementary ages.
  10. Thanks for the greeting, Rosie. Great quote by Krishnamurti. His books have been on my shelf for years waiting to be read...
  11. My daughter is working through Saxon because she has large gaps in her basic math skills.
  12. Just wanted to add that I have 4 children, 3 who are currently homeschooling; DS 11 and twin DDs 10. Oldest DD 12 went back to a B&M 7th grade 3 months ago, after being home for 3 years. She's thriving and happy :)
  13. white canvas couch cushions and clean blankets... aka "pillow forts"
  14. Hi there! I've been following for years but finally joined today... :001_smile:
