  1. Can you go about it in reverse? Could you not set a basal increase for 3am? That way you could sleep until 4 or 5, check her levels and treat for a high if necessary. She wouldn't be high every morning, and then only for an hour or so. You're right, not a good answer... But you sleeping from 10-4 (6 hours!) would be twice what you're getting now. And you could go back to bed for more since that's the time you normally sleep now.
  2. :grouphug: Been there, done that, with regard to staying up all hours of the night to check dd's glucose levels. One night the Dexcom read 117, in reality it was 42 when I pricked her finger! I get it. I didn't do much school beyond the basics the year she was diagnosed mostly because of lack of energy from sleeping only a few hours per night. Needless to say, housework suffered and we missed many field trips and activities. I weaned myself from this nightly vigilance by giving dd a small snack before bed (without insulin) and setting my alarm for 2 or 3 hours later to prick her finger (as you know the Dexcom doesn't pick up lows in kids). Her levels ran a bit high till I figured things out, but I needed to sleep! Are you familiar with the Dawn Phenomenon? It might explain why your dd's levels stabilize at 4am. If she's on a pump, can you pull back on background insulin from her bedtime till 4am? That way you could sleep till at least 4, check, then go back to sleep? If she's on Lantus you could divide it into 2, 12-hour doses, with the lower dose being at night to decrease the chance of nighttime lows? :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  3. I'd allow my child to follow a passion (whatever it may be) to the point that he/she became an "expert" in that field, the known go-to person. Of course other subjects would get neglected, but so what? As long as their passion was a relatively useful one, they'd always be employed, and they would always love their work.
  4. Your strength seems limitless to me! I pray you have many peaceful moments alone, and with your boys as well. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  5. I accidentally left my phone in the car this morning when I went to class. The professor was late and I found myself wanting to look at my phone over and over again to check the time. While I would have normally answered emails or texts at this time, I quietly read over my notes, which felt really nice for a change. :)
  6. :001_wub: One of my favorite childhood books! I bought an old library-binding copy at a Barnes & Noble store that was closing. None of my kids ever wanted to read it. Sigh. But it gives me a good feeling to see it on the shelf.
  7. I love this! Only glanced at it briefly and will return later... do you have to register in order to donate the rice?
  8. We've used both in the past. DD liked SYRWTLF better (colorful pictures), while I found First Start clearer, and easier to implement. You wouldn't be wasting your money buying Galore Park.
  9. Has he ever taken college classes before? Maybe the workload and/or tight deadlines are something new to him, and he's struggling with it? (Not implying a lack in his homeschooling :) ) It's easy to pretend you don't care when you're overwhelmed. Maybe he does care but feels like he's in over his head, and doesn't know how else to cope?
  10. Thank you both! This is exactly the wording I was looking for. :hurray:
  11. Ok, thank you. I re-read the regulations even though I already knew this wasn't required. Just needed another homeschooler to back me up. :thumbup1:
  12. I recently submitted a letter of intent. Today, I received the IHIP form along with this statement from the Superintendent: "I will ask Dr. John Smith, the principal of Your Local High School, to meet with you to review both the implementation and assessment of the education plan for DD." and "Dr. John Smith may be reached at (123) 456-7890. Please contact his office to arrange a meeting as soon as possible." Please, help me in wording a response! I want to sound polite, but also get across the point that I will not meet with the principal. Thank you in advance!! :) :) :) ETA: This is in NEW YORK
  13. Dd's dance teacher obviously thinks you have all that extra time to run around town like that! Why doesn't SHE buy several sizes at the local dance shop, let the girls try on, then return them herself? (not that I support this method.) To answer your question, no, I wouldn't say anything. I'd buy the item wherever I wanted, and have a talk with dd about it.
  14. Maybe students memorize how to do the problems for the test without a real understanding of what they're doing...? Similarly, how is it possible that at least 5-6 out of 20 students in an upper level psychology class (for which a basic high school or college intro to psychology class is required) have never heard of Pavlov and his dogs?? It's not that they didn't remember the study, they never even heard the name before!
  15. :lurk5: I plan to do this next year and would like to buy a text as well. (This year we're doing Thinkwell Biology with Campbell and Miller Levine for reference.)
  16. :cursing: I'm so frustrated for you! Hoping it gets resolved VERY SOON! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  17. Oops, realized after I posted above that this isn't the high school forum...
  18. I bought a bundle (textbook, lab manual, atlas, software, and other supplements) at my local CC. "Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology" (tenth edition) by Martini, Nath, and Bartholomew. I think it's excellent.
