  1. Did they do a CT scan at the ER? My baby (he was 22 months) had a mild concussion last summer when he fell/climbed out of the crib and broke his arm. They took the "possible head injury" much more serious than the broken arm. Even with the concussion he was fine within a day, completely back to his normal climbing self.
  2. My thoughts and prayers are with Tricia and Nate right now. May God hold her in his hands. May the Holy Spirit guide the hand of the surgeons. May peace be with the donor family. I've followed their story for the past few months.
  3. That is a very cute story. I love how their little minds work. I use St. Patrick's examples to teach my children. Saint Patrick used the shamrock as a symbol to explain the Trinity to Unbelievers, i.e., how God is One God in Three Persons. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). Patrick would hold up a shamrock and challenge his hearers, "Is it one leaf or three?" "It is both one leaf and three," was their reply. "And so it is with God," he would conclude. "19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of Him from The Creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His Eternal Power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse"(Romans 1:19-20). Of course, doctrines such as the Trinity or the Divinity of Jesus Christ can only be received by willing hearts, who have committed themselves to obey whatever the Spirit reveals from the Scriptures. "If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine"(John 7:17). St. Patrick, no doubt, was careful not to confuse pagan idolaters with the idea of Polytheism, i.e., the false notion that there are many separate gods; but, his dependence upon the Holy Spirit to give him the illustration of the shamrock to illustrate the Trinity, gave him success in preaching the Gospel.
  4. I've never seen a white suit do well in water. If you want to look pretty on the side of the pool then go for it just don't get it wet.
  5. I don't think the "Back-to-Sleep" campaign is to blame. The flat heads also come from the carseat-stroller combos. Too many little guys are strapped into their carseats for hours at a time. The carseats snap right into the strollers and baby is strapped in. In the late 90's, when I first became a parent, the carseat carries were just becoming popular. I don't remember any babies with flat heads. Now I see babies nearly a year old still being carried in the "buckets". My kiddoes all slept on their backs and none of them had any flattening to their heads. I typically used a sling or Bjorn instead of a stroller and I never carried the carseat around. We also used the Bumbo from 6 weeks on with the little ones. My guys never liked lying flat unless they were asleep. As a side, I do think that I'd continue to put my babies on their backs even if they had a flat head. I'm too pariniod to risk SIDS. "As of 1998, more than 75% of babies were estimated to be put to sleep on their backs, in contrast to 25% in 1992. Over this same period, there was a dramatic decline in the number of SIDS deaths — by some estimates as much as 40%."
  6. Congratulations! You have such a wonderful family! I'm so excited for you guys. :)
  7. Our four year old has fetal alcohol syndrome. We adopted him knowing of his mother's drug (meth) and drinking problems during her pregnancy. According to the report she gave the hospital she drank 20+ glasses of vodka daily and lived in a house that "cooked" meth. It seems so grandiose that we have no idea if that is even possible (20 drinks daily) but nonetheless we knew he'd have issues. And he does. For the most part Tommy is an absolute delight. Strangers LOVE him. The seniors on the swim team (high school aged) call him the pool stud. He's never met a stranger. He's delightful. Occasionally, he melts down. Tommy also has no awareness of consequences which often causes a problem. When he was very little I'd explain that he has fetal alcohol syndrome and then quickly announce that he's adopted. I didn't want anyone thinking I did this to him. Now that he's more aware I tend to not say anything. I don't want to make him feel ashamed for being adopted. I don't want him to think we're ashamed to have him. I don't really know what's the right thing to do/say to those who stare. It makes me very sad some days especially when I hear someone comment about him or my parenting under their breath.
  8. I wouldn't give codeine to a four year old without talking to a doctor. The risk for respiratory depression is too high IMO. Do you have any Motrin? That usually works better than Tylenol for ear pain. I'd probably make the long trip into town. Ear pain can be excruciating. I wouldn't want to wait until the morning especially with a four year old. I'd know that I wouldn't get any sleep if it were my little guy. If you do give the Codeine make sure it isn't combined with acetaminophen.
  9. I agree. I'd want to read the records for myself. It's likely you will have some connections to this man. I'd want to know exactly what happened. Good luck.
  10. eat better and exercise more I've been blessed with great genetics, but there were times in my life (postpartum) that I needed to lose a few extra pounds. Forcing myself to walk around the block and choosing fruit instead of ice cream really worked. I also implemented a work out video regime. I really wanted to nap but felt much better if I "worked out". My children laughed at me but eventually they joined me. I'm sure there are better options than Kathy Lee's Fit and Fabulous :willy_nilly:but I was too cheep to buy a new one.
  11. My dh makes a big family brunch after Mass. We usually go to the 8am service, home by 9:30. We all have a donut and a little fellowship after the service. Dh usually makes French toast, Biscuits and Gravy or Omelets with appropriate sides. The two little guys get some fruit or a PB&J sandwich with milk or Pedisure before church. They can't last that long without eating. They are also exempt from the fasting rules so it doesnt matter. :)
  12. Living in Colorado my entire life, I've never experienced spring. Our snowiest month is April. It could be 80° or 20° any given day between February and June. Bring on the thermal undies and snow pants for spring soccer season is upon us.
  13. The bigger the ship the better. You certainly don't feel the motion like you do in a plane. I have no problems at all on cruises. I need several air sick bags on every flight. The patches do work and so does ginger. I wouldn't miss out on a cruise do to possible motion sickness. I've heard the best cabins are the center of the ship on the lowest floors. We usually stay towards the back on a balcony and I've have had no problems. At night I can feel the ship rock but it isn't bad. A few hours on dry land makes me feel a little queasy though. I'm not sure why. If you have the opportunity I'd go for it. Cruises are amazing!:)
  14. I usually measure exactly right though. I'd be more worried about complications like polyhydraminous than I would about multiples. Either way I'd go for the U/S. Good luck!
  15. http://punchbuggy-punkins.blogspot.com/2006/07/team-punchbuggy.html I explained what Punch-Buggy Punkins means and why I chose it as my blog title.
  16. My three older kids all do swim team. They practice 3 times a week at the same time. They also do Kung Fu twice a week, also at the same time. I set up piano/guitar lessons so they go back-to-back one day a week. Thank goodness they all love to swim. :) I couldn't possibly drive them to different activities and pass any of my own classes. My dh takes the three big kids skiing at least one day a week from Christmas to April. We're busy but I like it that way. I remember being in lots of activities as a child. My dh didn't do any activities. Our lifestyle is foreign to him.
  17. Scanned out of my yearbook. I think I kept Aquanet in business for many years.
  18. We love Britax. They are a bit pricy but so worth it in my opinion. I currently have three in Marathons, ages 2, 4, and 7. The Marathon goes from 6-65 lbs in a 5-point harness. Amazon usually has good sales but limited cover choices. I've seen them at Target and BRU. Features: Rear-facing position holds up to 33 pounds; forward-facing holds up to 65 pounds Patented Versa-Tether Comfortably fits larger, older children Removable, washable fabric cover Patented HUGS system Belly pad for comfort and protection Built-in lock-offs Sculpted base for a perfect fit Flexible buckle LATCH system Comfort foam and EPS protective foam Tangle-free polyester 5-point harness Belt holders keep belts aside for boarding One hand recline adjustment
  19. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I really loved the clinicals on oncology. But now I'm doing OB and I'm loving that too. I'm still crying everyday lol but these tears are different. There's a lot more "happy" to balance out the sad. KWIM? I think hospice is incredibly special and spiritual it's something I'm definitely considering. I absolutely love every minute of clinicals. Everyday is so different and exciting. I don't graduate until May of 09 so I still have a long way to go. I just keep telling my self just two and a half more semesters....
  20. This is the only one I have uploaded. I bought this dress at TJ Maxx for under $50.00. We got married 2 weeks after a positive pregnancy test. :) I was 19, he was 20 (barely). Were still together and happier than ever. This July will be 12 years. We did get married in the Catholic Church 2 years later but it was a very small, simple ceremony.
  21. Isn't it awful?! Last year I lost TWO PC stones in one week. I have absolutely no idea what happened to them. They were both around 7 years old. :'(
  22. Chlorine makes the Mystic tans streak and run. It shouldn't matter in the salt water pools but you might want to avoid the hot tubs. I remember several women with obvious streaks on our last cruise. Also remember that you need a lot of sunscreen. The Mystic tan doesn't provide any sun protection. Have a fabulous vacation. :)
  23. Oh no! My three year old (at the time) did that last fall. My mom had given the kids an old cell phone to play with. I had no idea that phones without service can still call 911.
