  1. It explains the ten year gap of my children's ages. I never know what to say when people ask. It's not like I can say, "well we had to heal and then fall in love again."
  2. I was blissfully ignorant till I Googled it just now.
  3. I will ask my husband when he wakes up from his nap. I understand her response. The PTSD is one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. My husband is home for always now because he was injured. No civilian job is quite the same. He misses it.
  4. Messy bun. My husband is rocking the lumbersexual trend but I didn't read that thread long enough to know if that's alright. His beard is amazing y'all. :) P.S. he has a kilt. But he isn't wearing it right now...
  5. I live in a college town and could get textbooks cheap. I just don't know what to assign. She would read it and then what? Labs? I worry about science the most. My library has some TC courses.
  6. Does having a tutor who is helping out from the goodness of his heart count as outsourcing? Our Latin tutor is a dear friend and he is spoiling us. But this challenge is our reality so I'm thinking about it. My daughter hates to do school online and we have a budget that makes me want to cry. The current plan is that we will continue with the wtm plan but do "something else" for science. I just don't know what "something else" is yet.
  7. I have a sixth grader, and no advice. Just wanted to let you know that you definitely aren't alone in your worries. I woke up suddenly a few nights back freaking out about school so I've been on the board a lot more often lately while I'm trying to articulate my worries. Just don't wanna mess this up!
  8. Dressing up like and meeting your favorite princess. I don't recommend the Bippiti Boppiti Boutique because it is so expensive. A dress from Walmart or whatever is fine. You don't need a special autograph book either, I don't remember how much they cost. But getting your favorite princess to sign their autograph is so cool. My daughter was starstruck and then when she could finally speak again she didn't shush about it for months. You will be in lines for a long time so go knowing that you might not be able to do everything that you want. But it is pretty, there is lots to see. And definitely don't go on a Monday.
  9. Oh no. I hope it is just the website. I sent them a letter a few weeks ago. Times are hard.
  10. Caillou is way to whiney for us. We watch the classic Winnie the Pooh a lot and others that have already been mentioned. My son LOVES Dinosaur Train. It makes me want to rip my ears off.
  11. I read As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of Princess Bride in its entirety yesterday.
  12. I was embarrassed to post them! Eek it was our first year and I had no idea what we were doing.
  13. We too are struggling with nature study. We live in an apartment in a city. There are places that we could go to nearby, but it gets so hot out. I've thought of gardening on my porch, if that counts.
  14. I dug around and found this. We did foldables this day instead of notebook ing pages but you can get the idea.
  15. We can't draw. But we scrapbook. I have some college textbooks that we are mutilating by cutting out the pictures. It is as simple as writing about the thing (Ancient Greek theater for example ) and pasting a picture of the theater to it. That was fourth grade. Lately she has been pasting the pictures into her Book of Centuries. I hate mutilating books but we ran out of printer ink and they were just sitting there.
  16. I'm only in the thinking about it stage. But I think... 1-3 will be history stories (similar to AO), not sure if SOTW fits into that, 4-7 will be the first official rotation using I'm not sure, 8th will be something that interests the child (my daughter is going to do an Anne of Green Gables year long unit study and I can see my boys doing LOTR or but obviously I can't truly plan that far ahead), and then 9-12 will be the Great Books twtm rotation. Because of when we started homeschooling and our hiccups along the way it made sense for my daughter to do the Anne study in 8th. So then I thought it was a cool way to fit in something awesome that we wouldn't get to do if we did the original 3 rotations.
  17. Our read alouds are the ones slightly above my daughter's reading level. That way she is gently introduced to new vocabulary and I can answer any questions she has. For reading suggestions I always check twtm first, or ambleside. My book is downstairs and I cant grab it right now. So. Off the top of my head... Door in the Wall, The Midwives Apprentice, Catherine Called Birdy, and King Arthur for middle ages. I just asked my daughter and she wants to make sure that you guys read the Chronicles of Narnia.
  18. My daughter has a checklist that she works from on a clipboard but I write things that require me in my bullet journal, like morning basket. I'm about to run out the door but I could write more about it later.
  19. I like her to read variety, so yeah we do the WTM thing. She is also allowed a candy book (what we call twaddle books) occasionally, within reason. Lately, because of my toddler and my pregnancy, we've just been putting books on hold and going once a week or so to pick up our books. Also about once or twice a week or so I go just with my toddler while she is at dance, so he can play without me stressing. Also, every week or every other week her and I will have Mommy daughter dates at the library while my toddler has special Daddy time. I'm due for my Mommy alone time there really soon. We love the library, can ya tell? And if it seems from the paragraph above that we are there almost every day of the week, that would be a yes. It's on the way home from dance and she has either class or rehersal 4 times a week.
  20. See, I've realized that I will have a high schooler at the same time that I will be teaching my boys in early elementary. My daughter went to public school through third. Most of my budget is going towards what my daughter needs. Thankfully I've been doing a great books study using the rhetoric section of wtm on and off, so I don't need much.
  21. Thanks. I've probably read the threads, but it wouldnt hurt to read it again. I have My Bookhouse on my Amazon wishlist so I don't forget.
