  1. All writers of the blogs I follow post what they are reading.
  2. My baby is a week old and we are potentially starting just math back up in about two weeks. I hear ya. We'd love more time off but it would mess up our summer.
  3. I wouldn't have the confidence to continue to homeschool through our money issues without Hunter.
  4. I was very nervous when my daughter and I read it together and we got to Beth's death. I was afraid she would be mad. She wasn't.
  5. Once upon a time I freaked out because I was going to have two children under two. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/585290-two-under-two/ It isn't that bad at all. Introducing Jacob Friedrich C. Wed, March 2nd, 8:45 am, 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Little brother to R. Elizabeth C. And C.M.C. nicknamed Bhaer. My daughter R is wondering if you can pick out my favorite novel, based on my children's middle names and nicknames. (I chose not to type out their full names.)
  6. I'm going to have a baby! My mother in law is here for the entire month! (Which actually has been pretty good so far.) Other than that I hope some sucky circumstances improve for us.
  7. I swear, my daughter only needs to go to the bathroom after you tell her to get started on something. "Did you atleast bring your math in there?" "Nooooooo, whhhhyyyyyy?"
  8. Just relaxing and praying that my baby doesn't want to be born today. I should be stocking my freezer.
  9. My sixth grader works an average of 5 maybe 6 hours a day. But she takes lots of breaks.
  10. Colloquy. I love the way it sounds. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/colloquy
  11. I was given the textbook and solutions manual without the tests. I've found tests cheap on amazon but no answer key yet.
  12. Hits: WWS1 is helping my daughter become a better writer. Exploring Creation with Botany. Famous Men of Greece and doing narrations instead of filling in a workbook. Our library. We are there atleast three times a week and it fills our gaps. Misses: The entire MP package that we started out with. We hated the schedule, we hated the workbooks, we hated the writing. Oh gosh by three weeks we were tweaking heavily. I'm never buying a full package again.
  13. My parents said nothing about it. I watched Look Who's Talking as a kid and I was confused. I was given the "this is what is going on with your body" talk four different times... each foster mom around that time gave me their own version. There was also the version I got in the girls only health classes. I randomly picked up things as I went along. I was pretty clueless, truly. I didn't quite put all the pieces together until college. And my daughter was due during finals week sophomore year so there you go.
  14. Saxon Algebra 1/2 second edition textbook and solutions manual Exploring Creation with General Science first edition text A book that has activities for toddlers. I have forgotten the title. I mentioned in my letter that I technically didn't need anything for DS but if they had anything it would be appreciated. They threw in a Care Bears coloring book too. :) I can easily do history and language arts with what we have here (and the library) but math and science was what was concerning me. We quite literally have no budget for school next year because of some unfortunate circumstances. My best friend tutors her in Latin and provides the textbook (he is a saint!) or I probably would have asked for Latin too. I'm still trying to figure out if she should do anything for logic since it is seventh grade. I've read every thread here on homeschooling for free or almost free but my daughter hates to read online textbooks and printing at our library is ten cents a page.
  15. I'm sure I could probably get the test packet and hopefully an answer key pretty cheap (second edition), but just in case I can't, are tests absolutely necessary? I can't believe I'm asking this. (If I was reading this I'd tell myself "Of Course!!!") So far we only have the textbook and the solutions manual.
  16. We have been blessed by the ministry of The Book Samaritan. I know that some of you donate your used curriculum to them. I have no way of knowing if we were just blessed by your donation, but we are SO VERY THANKFUL so I wanted to jump on and say thank you, Thank you thank you thank you. Even if these books didn't come from you your donations have helped The Book Samaritan which then helped us. Someday when our (personal) circumstances are better I hope to will donate to them as well. :hurray:
  17. I bought Rod and Staff sixth grade for myself when my daughter was in second and I was in the beginning stages of convincing my husband to homeschool. At one point SWB or her mom recommended Abeka for self ed. You could go through what you already have ahead or pick another curriculum. I don't think it matters- the one you pick to use that gets used is the best one for you.
  18. My daughter's bags tend to come from Claires in the mall. She doesn't need to carry an epipen though so I don't know if there are specific requirements you are looking for. But her current one is a crossbody type with a flower print. It has enough room for a book, wallet, and lip gloss.
  19. It was years ago, and we haven't had to do it since. We discussed how she was hurting the people that she was lying about and to. I also gave her a list of every single Bible verse where lying was mentioned and she had to look it up, underline the passage, think about how it related to this particular situation and what God thought about lying, and pray about it. She had no privileges like tv until she was done. It took her a few days I think, maybe more. She uses a different Bible now but for a long time after she would come across those verses again in her normal reading and remember. It worked for us.
  20. I'm interested to see what others say because we haven't gone through this (yet?). I will probably handle it like we handled lying a few years back. I think lying and cheating are similar.
  21. I need a calculator. I cannot do basic math in my head, I still sometimes count on my fingers. I somehow managed to pass college algebra. (I took my final a couple days after she was born but that's another story.) My daughter is so much better at math than me. I've been playing around with Khan Academy and we both like the Danica McKellar books.
