  1. I had pretty intense heartburn with all of my pregnancies, so I always add an antacid to my hospital bag. Comfortable, warm socks.
  2. We're watching the most recently released season of The Americans...and what felt quaint two years ago feels scarily salient today.
  3. We did them in order, and refer frequently to open and closed syllables when addressing spelling questions.
  4. This! An heirloom-quality rocking chair would be a special gift.
  5. Re: accent - a few years ago I had a few dental implants which effected my speech, such that I developed a lisp overnight! I sat with my kids and read and read and read aloud, making myself to form a new speaking habit. Perhaps that would work for you?
  6. Is there a chance you have diastasis recti? Without healing your abdominals, you'll never get a flat-ish tummy. I currently have what my children lovingly refer to as "mama's butt tummy."  :confused1: :cursing: :crying:
  7. I have made a wax with beeswax and olive oil that I use to condition cutting boards, kitchen cabinets, and to treat my daughter's eczema. I could see it working well on wood floors, but like all natural solutions, it would take longer, have less impressive results, and require more frequent application.
  8. Before we adopted a family name (everyone is hyphenated), I would receive mail with DHs last name, and he received just as much with my last name.
  9. I've been generating side hustle ideas for a few months, and am on the verge of acting on one or two in the next week. I'm wondering if anyone here has a solid side hustle, and, if so, how has it been for you? Curious about time, setbacks, familial support, your ability to balance working with school responsibilities, and all the other types of questions that come in with starting your own business. FWIW, my "hustle" ideas all fall in the field of formulating digital products for sale (templates and the like).
  10. For me, "worn out" feels as though a nice, relaxing vacation could solve the problem. "Depression" has no solution. Things are bad, will always be bad, and there's no sense thinking about fixing it.
  11. No one has posted our favorite trick, which is the baby b hidden in the big B.
  12. Are you coming soon? The SLO library is closed for renovations. Depending on ages of children, Kennedy probably is a better bet, although it would be more fun to be in downtown SLO if popping out for coffee or a treat is in your plans. Cal Poly has a fun periodic table display that is not to be missed. http://www.chemistry.calpoly.edu/content/about-us/new-facilities Other fun downtown SLO ideas: Wandering around the mission Bubblegum alley Scout coffee Dessert at the Madonna Inn SLO Donut Company (SloDoCo) is another fun stop Check the Performing Arts schedule. Tickets for student shows are free! http://www.pacslo.org/outreach/2015_16_school_matinee_performance_season
  13. Usborn has a large series of story-based puzzles. My kids really like them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usborne_Puzzle_Adventure_series
  14. A friend had liked this app/product's page on Facebook, so it occasionally shows up in my feed as an ad. I've been curious about it. I find that I will often hold my breath while doing tasks. I think it's been contributing to headaches. https://www.spire.io/
  15. And thanks for linking! Posting from my tablet really inhibits my ability to be generous with links :)
  16. Listen to the Freakonomics podcast "are we in a mattress store bubble?". It's so fascinating! No recs here...I'm still on my college mattress (ick!) and will probably upgrade to whatever Costco carries, because convenience trumps all.
  17. Yep! I'm just hoping there are a few hidden gems I haven't found.
  18. There are some categories of problems which really lend themselves to a bar model. They provide a framework for the student to logic through a problem. We have had a few problems in which my son (who is fluent with variables and basic algebra) was able to "see" a solution using the bar model. These tend to be comparison problems or ones dealing with fractions. I wouldn't set them up in opposition. They feel like valid and useful additions to any problem solving toolbox.
  19. I was overdue for new pants (having lived in elastic-waisted pants for two years due to pregnancy/total lack of time to try on new pants). Friends had given me a gift card to Old Navy, and on a whim I stopped in. I typically get jeans at the thrift store, as paying $30 for a **cheap** pair of jeans really does me in. On this day, I found a rounder several super clearanced jeans. We are talking $0.44 jeans! Way cheaper than thrift store prices, unless it's by-the-pound or a bag day.
  20. I came to recommend Rose-Hulman, which should meet all of your criteria.
  21. I keep waiting for Froebel to become popular. His work is SO fascinating and has been useful for my ASD kiddo. (The rest love it too; he just gets into it in an almost religious way.)
  22. I looked through the archives and didn't see any good hits for this topic. I'm looking for Valentine's Day books for older elementary-aged children. Picture books are perfect. I'm looking to avoid product tie-ins, series books (Fancy Nancy, etc), or easy-reader chapter books. Those are easy to find! The kids currently LOVE "Somebody Loves you, Mr Hatch." If there are suggestions in that vein, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance!
  23. This is worth noting. Our worst baby flying experience was taking sleeping babe OUT of the Ergo for takeoff. Plan ahead :)
  24. I've flown cross-country with infants a few times. I find it super, super easy. Baby eats, sleeps, eats, and sleeps. Biggest problem is if you're on a plane without a changing table in the bathroom. Good luck!
