  1. #6 was the hardest for me. When she came home (at 2 days old - she was adopted), I had a newborn, 9 month old, 28 month old, 6 year old, 11 year old, and 13 year old. Having 3 under 3 almost did me in.
  2. :iagree::iagree: I am thankful that I was witness to such greatness in my lifetime.
  3. I voted that I watch for commercials, but the Super Bowl is an event at my house. We have about 20 people coming over and I basically provide the food, ignore all the teenagers and kids, and talk to the other wives!
  4. :grouphug: Yes, I am praying for Christine daily and will add you to my prayers. :grouphug:
  5. I don't think it is too close. I would personally never associate the name Liam with the name William. I think of them as two totally separate names.
  6. This is how it is for us. My kids are very involved - gymnastics, dance, baseball, church activities - you name it. We carpool with other parents that live out our way and drive a LOT. It is worth it for us because we love it so much out here. It is quiet, we can hear our streams running in the spring and summer, and our chickens crowing ALL the time! My kids have the run of the pastures and woods. We have trails up the mountain beside our house and the view is incredible.
  7. Dh and I each have our own laptop; ds 17 has a desktop in his room; there is a laptop that stays in the library; there is a desktop in our main living area. My 13yo dd will get a laptop when she starts 9th grade next year. So, I guess at that point there will be as many computers as people in the house, but our two youngest have to wait for 9th grade to call one "theirs."
  8. I don't have a limit for my 17yo, because he doesn't play that often. It doesn't grab his attention like it does my 12yo. My 12yo can only play for 1 hour per day after chores, schoolwork, etc. are done. Most weekends he doesn't play at all because he has friends over or we are busy doing something. If he has a friend over, they rarely play video games. They usually end up outside. ETA: My girls have no interest in video games.
  9. I have taught two children all the way through high school, and one almost through, and have never heard the term "absolute phrase." I found this: http://www.testmagic.com/grammar/explanations/phrases/absolute-phrases-introduction.asp So, it sounds like appositive phrases and participial phrases would also be termed an absolute phrase.
  10. Yes, we read essays. I have found a good selection just looking through the HEO booklists on Ambleside Online.
  11. For middle school I have used Caesar's English from MCT for the last couple of years (it wasn't around with my olders). I have always used Vocabulary from Classical Roots for high school and will probably continue to use VfCR with my youngers instead of continuing with the MCT materials.
  12. Math, science, and latin are non-negotiable and I make the decision. I am much more open to their input on history, literature, and electives within certain parameters.
  13. Thank you for the update. I'm so happy to hear good news!
  14. It is not necessary for the course, but it is very handy to have. It works out all of the problems step-by-step for you so the student can see exactly where they went wrong.
  15. We get up early around here. I am up by 5:00 so I have some time to wake up before time to get the kids up. I wake them at 6:00 and they know they have 1 hour to make their bed, straighten their room, eat breakfast, brush their teeth and do their chore. We are all in the living room ready for memory work/Bible by 7:00.
  16. Another option would be Mosdos Literature. I think 7th grade is a good time to start some literature analysis to be prepared for high school level work.
  17. I don't know about the Geometry text, but this is the sequence we have always used: Algebra I Algebra II Advanced Mathematics (analytical geometry through lesson 63, and then trig.) There is geometry spread throughout Algebra I and Algebra II.
