  1. Let me know what you think, as my dd who is 11 is begging to read this.
  2. My daughter is begging to read these books. What age would you say they are appropriate for? She is 11 going on 20.
  3. I do the same thing as above and teach my children to do this also: replace it's with it is and see if it works.
  4. My son had the same trouble - also with letters. His older brother (who was 10 at the time) told me I was teaching him the wrong way. "He has to touch things, Mom." His older brother had him make his letters and numbers with play-dough and write them in cornmeal, etc. It worked! He is a kinesthetic learner and I did not know it until then.
  5. We are on day 110 of 180. We are required to do the 180.
  6. There is a practice here in our town that our daughter saw for a toe problem. There were called simply Foot and Ankle, but I think they were orthopaedists.
  7. It seems all of a sudden EVERYTHING in the house needs to be cleaned out - drawers, closets, etc. Piles of everyone's stuff is everywhere. I used to be an organized neat freak, but six kids and homeschooling will take care of that. I looked around my thought was - It was be easier to just move. That's sane, huh?
  8. I used it for my last four children. Some liked it and some didn't, but they all learned to read.
  9. Try this link. It is a list (some with reviews) of movies in every time period and place.
  10. I finally went to get my eyes checked. My near vision has gone rapidly downhill the last few months (since my 45th birthday), and my far vision is effecting my driving. My kids don't want to ride with me. I had no idea until my last check-up that vision loss is part of pre-menopause. I'm just not ready for all of this. I feel more like 30 than 45. So, I priced glasses at Super Wal-Mart and found the exam to be $82 and the glasses I looked at from $60-$100. I prepared for this and made an appointment. OH MY GOSH - I forgot about the cost of the prescription lens. The total was nearly $400!! My dh is out of town. Won't he be surprised when he gets home! I think getting old is going to be expensive.
  11. I would cut the sausage into small pieces, cook it in a pan with the veggies and serve it over rice. Or make it into a soup if you have some broth or a can of tomato sauce to use as a base.
  12. I decorated boxes the size of large shoe boxes with pretty contact paper (the boxes were free, as my husband owns shipping stores), and then sorted the pictures by year and put them neatly in boxes. This took a LONG time (I have been married for 27 years). The first years I combined a few years together, but with each child there were more and more. . .
  13. I find everything Kim said to be true. We live in a rural area 12 miles from Asheville. I think Asheville is atypical, as it is considered a "small New Orleans." I heard a radio talk show host call the city limits "Freak City" yesterday. Everything outside I-240 (which loops the city) is as described above, the city limits are like another planet. I have found that the people here are genuinely friendly, but look suspiciously on people that are different than they are or are from another area.
  14. This is what gave it the PG-13 rating: This film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, smoking and a scene of teen drinking.
  15. My oldest son started acting like that when he was 8 (the other three were a little older). Our reaction to this behavior is double the praise, double the discipline. Also, at this point I stopped doing most of his punishment and left that to dh. I kept a chart and made a mark each time he was rude or disrepectful and dh dealt with him accordingly each evening. It was more of a load on my dh, but at that age he received it better from his dad.
  16. My two oldest sons (who are grown now) started cc in the 10th grade. They made A's in all their courses. I allowed them to start with one course a semester and if they did well, to add another. They ended up with 12-15 credit hours by the time they graduated high school. It was a positive experience for them. My 9th grader will take a cc course this coming fall.
  17. My children go to a small private school to test. The fees are $30 each. They are tested individually and not in a classroom setting. The tests are at the beginning of April, which is early. It doesn't really matter, except for my information (what they need to work on, etc.). In NC they are required to test but you only have to keep them on file - not send them in. They could technically ask for them, but in all my years of schooling they never have.
  18. I can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned. Whatever would be less expensive would never offset the cost of things that are more expensive IMO.
  19. I think you should pick a color that makes you happy to look at. For me that is all shades of orange. The furniture is beautiful and it looks like you could choose just about any color. So pick one that lifts your spirits.
  20. No, but if you'll pm me, I'll fax you a copy of ours or send it to you snail mail.
  21. I think it's beautiful and very appropriate. Would a knitted wrap be too hot it May? What about something lighter.
  22. Our library doesn't charge fees to request books, but I make up for that with the fines I pay. I never can seem to get things back on time. Every time I pay them, I swear I'm going to get the new batch back - and don't. My dh (Mr. Organized) gives me that "I'm amazed by your stupidity" look whenever I own up to how much my fines were. So I just tend to avoid mentioning it. :001_smile: I am going right now to write on the calendar when the books we have out now are due.
  23. We camp about four times a year and love it! We have camped in the past with a pop-up and a tent (the boys still like their tent). This year we sold the pop-up and moved to a tow-behind camper. I would agree with all the other ladies about what to bring. My dh and I make a list while we're camping of the things we need or maybe have run out of on this trip. That way we don't forget the things we need to stock up on for the next trip. Bring baby wipes. Kids tend to get really dirty in a campground and it's easier just to "wipe them down." Also bring them more than one pair of shoes, because one pair may get wet.
