  1. Oh how beautiful! You are so very blessed! Congratulations!! Thank you for sharing.
  2. My ds. liked Les Miserables, Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Chosen, Father Brown Mysteries, Gene Stratton Porter novels like Laddie, Harvester, etc, and lot of books from the Sonlight catalogue that I can't remember right now. HTH!
  3. Ds.1 enjoyed US. Gov. class at PAH. He took this last year. The class included weekly quizzes and essays with detailed feedback, polls, cartoons, a civic involvement project, and use of Americans Governing website with media clippings, interviews, short answers, quizzes, etc. The teacher gave prompt feedback on essays and ds. was impacted by the project he chose to do. He had a good experience and I would recommend it. However, one of my friend's sons took it this year and said the teacher was lax in giving prompt feedback. Perhaps she had a baby or something. I can't remember all the details. Human Geography was enjoyable. Ds. pretty much read the text, did the exercises, and prepped for the exam using a prep. book and aced it. Yes, the course is well laid out and the teacher is prompt with feedback. AP Euro teacher Mrs. Harrison was also excellent. HTH!
  4. My oldest did mostly highschool level work in middleschool and was ready for it. I let him choose subjects that he was interested in the first year. In the sophomore year, again I let him choose one history and one science AP course. He is leaning toward a science major.
  5. European History exam went very well for ds. and he hopes to get a 5. Chemistry MCQs went well but he missed a couple of FRQs due to lack of time!! He said if he didn't do well it was entirely his fault and not Mr. Moskluk's. His scores in July will tell the story.
  6. 11nth Grade: AP Lit. with PAHS Spanish with SO AP Calculus AB Science at local university : Biology most probably AP Economics with PAHS Haven't finalized all the courses except for the Lit, Econ. and Spanish Courses. What is the required number of courses that show rigor in Junior year? I am told that 6 to 7 courses in norm. What does the hive say? I could add Art History of Psychology or AP Physics. Are the five courses listed above too less? Thanks.
  7. Patrick Henry College Online is offering courses this fall and so is Potter's School.
  8. I plan to give 0.5 credit for the 3 week intense Science Camp ds. did. It included lectures, labs, discussions, quizzes, debate, research and an oral presentation in the end. The teacher gave out an official grade report at the end.
  9. Hits for dc. in 10th and 7th grades: AP Chemistry with PAHS AP European History with PAHS Spanish with Scholars Online Speech and Debate Competitions with NCFCA - Dc. have made wonderful progress this year in so many different areas : debate, apologetics, humourous interps., impromptu, etc. Benefits extended beyond academics to life skills. Omnibus I primary readings Foerster's Algebra I with Math Without Borders CDs TPS English I online class
  10. Our library had this on CDs and so we listened to it before we read it and I think that helped them to comprehend easily.
  11. I read his books as a young teen and it affected me profoundly. I pray for grace to be faithful to God till the end of my days like him.
  12. Ds.1 has Greek I, Greek II, and Latin I that he took at Scholars Online in 7th and 8th grades. All these courses used college texts and I would like to give him credit for it. Is there a way to do this. He took Latin II in 9th and is taking Spanish I, II, and III from 10-12th grades. Ds.2 is taking Latin I and Latin II in 7th and 8th grades using Wheelock's and Spanish I-IV in 9-12th. Is there a way to show this on the transcript for credit? Thanks.
  13. I have a child doing this currently. He likes his class and his teacher Mrs. Harrison and is doing well so far. The teacher is very organized, gives detailed feedback on all writing assignments, and is very knowledgeable. HTH!
  14. would you recommend? Mrs. Green, Mrs. Inspektor, and Debra Bell. Please give your feedback if your child has taken classes with any of the above teachers. Thanks. Nissi
  15. Thanks ladies. Ds. did AP US. Govt.& Politics and AP Human Geography in 9th grade and earned a 5 in both. Many colleges like to see an American History and Govt. course. So maybe it will be good for him to do US. History followed by Economics and Psychology. Since he liked his AP Euro. course ( he likes the big picture of European history that he is getting through it) he thinks he would benefit from a World History and then US History course. But that would mean leaving out Economics and Psychology unless he planned on a sixth course in his jr. and sr. years. His extracurriculars, Speech & Debate and Science Olympiad, take up a lot of time during the school year especially the second semester with all the tournaments and prep. He is doing only 5 subjects this year and that is what I am planning on for the next year. English, Math, Science, Social Science, and Foreign Language. Is this alright? I would like him to take electives like Computer Programming, Art History, and a Music Appreciation Course. He would like it too. Thanks again for taking time to respond.
  16. Ds. is finishing up with AP Euro. and I am trying to plan out history for his junior and senior years. He is also interested in AP Economics and Psychology. I don't know if he can fit everything in. He is leaning toward Pre med. in college. I know this is a very subjective question but please give input. Thanks. Nissi
  17. Yes, all the assignments for each lesson is from the Precalculus text. Some courses use the text and others don't.
  18. Ds.1 is doing Precalculus with Mr. Owens. The first semester was mostly review(this seems to be normal for any Precalculus course) but the second semester has all new material. He is happy with the course. Mr. Owens has been prompt with tests, homework assignments, etc. The main reason we chose Mr. Owens over others is because he could complete the material at his own pace. Other Precalculus courses that we considered seriously last year but could not fit into our schedule were the Potter's School Precalculus course and Scholars Online course. HTH!
  19. Brenda, your comment about parenting and selflessness brought tears to my eyes!! How true! Yet, we all need encouragement! Thank you Janice, Brenda, and Susan for sharing. You are very inspiring moms and role models! Thank you for what you do and for sharing on this board. Blessings, Nissi
