  1. Thanks for sharing! I had never heard of that one before. We use SM and all of the extra books because DS needs extra review in some areas. The HIG does list the EP pages that go with each chapter, but does not mention IP or CWP pages. I just fold those in myself. I have found this approach has worked quite well for us. Between all of the SM materials, we tend to hit enough review.
  2. Bumping up for you. I voted and I hope it helps. I love my ipad and can't imagine life without it now. :)
  3. Per our state, we don't have to have a school name but DS wanted one. We talked about it for quite a while and ultimately ended up with The Renaissance Academy. Yes, I know there are a few of those across the US, but DS really liked it and it was a name I could live with. I really would have liked to have come up with something a little more original but it just never happened. Then DS learned the definition of renaissance and it just stuck. It's serious enough that I can use the name when absolutely needed and it's a school name that we can grow with. We might change it in the future if the kids really want to, but this is a good fit for now.
  4. Wordly Wise - DS really hated the workbook. We tried the online version and that works much better. History Pockets - Too much copying, cutting, pasting, coloring, etc. DD enjoyed the coloring but I'm the one who spent time on the copying, cutting, and sometimes pasting.:glare: Trail Guide to Geography - I liked the idea of this but it didn't work for us. I'm going to try again over the summer to see if it gets any better and decide if we'll use it next year. HWT Cursive - HWT print had been successful for us, but I noticed DS's handwriting decline after starting cursive. We just switched to GDI and he is much happier with this approach. Singapore Earlybird - Ugh! There was a lot of cutting and pasting in this that made it very ineffective for us. Essential A & B has been fantastic and I wish we would have started with those instead. History Odyssey - Love the idea and some of the resources available, but I prefer SOTW overall. I still sometimes use the activities from some of the HO resources but SOTW has been much more streamlined for us. My kids also enjoy the SOTW audio so it's just been easier to stick with the SOTW AG that goes in the same order.
  5. I like that idea. Most of the time, these posts get lost in the curriculum forum.
  6. FLL 3 would be a perfect place to start. It will review many of the basic parts of speech introduced in FLL 1 & 2 but moves on to diagramming. You will need the teacher's text and the student workbook. We've used FLL 3 this year for our 3rd grader and have been very pleased. HTH!
  7. AAS does not include a student book, but it does come with a student material packet. The material packet you will need because it includes the tiles, phonogram cards, key cards, and word cards.
  8. :iagree: I can even use the workbooks on my ipad with an app like PDF Expert and a stylus.
  9. We love OPGTR! In addition, we use ETC (because my DD likes workbooks), ETC online, and the All About Reading hardback readers. I also use AAS for my older child so the letter tiles are available for use. She sometimes likes to build words on the spelling board.
  10. We've been happy with all of our choices this year for K, but DD's faves are as follows: OPGTR Singapore Essential Math A & B (we tried Earlybird and it was a bust, we've loved Essential!) ETC - She loves these and it's the first book she pulls out every morning ES Intro the Science
  11. I'll also vote for OPG. We used 100EZ several years ago and it did not work for us. All of the symbols and dots really threw my DS off and I also don't think the book takes students as far as they need to go in phonics instruction. Once we found OPG, we were very pleased and have used it for DS and now DD. It's a wonderful reading curriculum!
  12. I've never seen that happen before. For a test, I just entered 3 words and chose shirt as one of them. The crossword game spelled it correctly. I think it's just a fluke.
  13. Another vote for spellingcity.com We use AAS as our core spelling program and I can easily type our word lists into spelling city.
  14. Ours is very similar to yours. FLL3 WWE AAS ETC World Wise online - we use this instead of the books because DS really doesn't like the WW workbooks ETC online - this is fun for him and it's a great way to review the work he completed in the workbook Spelling City - great review for his AAS word lists
  15. Phonics: OPG & ETC Handwriting: GD Italics Spelling: AAS1 Grammar: FLL1 Writing: WWE1 Math: SM 1A & 1B with some Miquon Science: Follow along with DS - narrations and age appropriate activities History: Same as science Geography: Puzzles, games, and a beginning geography book by Rand McNally Art: Local co-op class, but I may look for other options if our schedule doesn't permit Music: Suzuki piano lessons Ballet I'm also considering Lollipop Logic or something similar since she enjoys these activities.
  16. Very cool! Now if Singapore math HIG and all of the kids books would come in PDF. I would also like the AAS manuals to come in PDF too. My iPad holds all of my sources that do come in PDF form and I love it! WWE, OPG, FLL, SOTW, and ES are all in one great easy to carry package that can check my email too!:D
  17. Yes! I forgot to mention that earlier. The acid bothers me in many coffees so I look for low-acid versions, but a latte also works very well. :001_smile: Actually, I prefer a latte to coffee with cream.
  18. Multiplication wasn't introduced until 4th grade when I was in school. Now, the local PS covers it in 3rd.
  19. I'm in the camp of maximizing speed and legibility. We've been using HWT and it has been successful for my kids but I do see the cursive slows down my DS quite a bit. I'm considering switching to something the really increases the speed and legibility but is easy for him to learn. :bigear:
  20. It's so wonderful when they truly enjoy learning. I love hearing stories like these!
  21. I have this one from amazon: Contact Barcode Scanner I've been very pleased with it and it has helped me scan so many books. I can't imagine typing all of those ISBNs in. It would have taken years!:tongue_smilie:
