  1. I own both editions and I much prefer the 2nd. The format of the 2nd edition is much easier to read and I like the larger pages. HTH!
  2. Thanks for asking this question. I'm currently shopping for a new one and I appreciate the feedback!
  3. FLL1 & FLL2 are all in one books. You don't need anything else. FLL3 has two parts: the instructor's guide and the student pages. HTH!
  4. I received some of our books from amazon yesterday. More will come today and the rest of the week. And, still more will come next week. Singapore, Rainbow Resource, Amazon, oh my. I'm giddy! Oh, and Proclick is totally on my list. Do I need it? No, but I love office supplies.
  5. Workhorse original by Reusablebags.com is my fave! I purchased the old version that was only available in black and I've used them for over ten years. They truly are workhorses!
  6. I think everyone was aiming to keep the same dates and location.....June 23-25 in Philadelphia. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. Susan, thank you! I would love to see Jim Weiss.:001_smile:
  8. We only use secular curriculum and I've never had a problem with FLL. We also use WWE which is the other language arts curriculum by SWB. I've been very pleased with both of these. I think I remember one or two reading selections that may have had a reference here or there, but it was very easy to skip over.
  9. I'm not above begging either! We can all take her out and let our hair down. :cheers2:
  10. I know there are some that don't combine and I would love to hear your perspective as well. Why did you decide not to combine and what does your day look like?
  11. Math: Singapore w/ some Miquon and lots of math games. We use IXL for fun review. Writing: WWE 3 & 4 with some Bravewriter exercise Vocabulary: Worldy Wise Grammar: FLL4 Spelling: AAS (we move quickly through these so I don't know where we'll be by 4th) Phonics: ETC books & online Reading: Assigned reading for history, science, & lit. Free reading everyday for quiet time and bedtime. Latin: Lively Latin Science: ES and nature study History: HO with some activities pulled from SOTW Geography: Trail Guide to World Geography & some Evan Moor for review Spanish: I'm still looking into a program that will work for us Art & Robotics with our local coop Tennis lessons & practice every week Piano lessons once a week with daily practice Skill subjects will be done daily. History & science are currently scheduled for 2 x week. I'm hoping to start at 8 and be done by lunch time with a very short snack break in between. After lunch, I usually have my kids do quiet time and read. Then we head to any activities or finish up work that wasn't completed in the morning.
  12. I agree with this. It isn't like history that needs a chronological order, IMO anyway. Right now, he really enjoys bio because of the garden we keep and doing nature study alongside our regular science. I'll have no problems changing in the future though if I see him losing that interest. I was just thinking that Bio would be really easy to have DD tag along. Teonei: Thank you! That was actually very helpful. I know we'll end up "off the cycle" at some point due to adding in US studies. I don't know when that will be just this moment, but it will come soon enough.
  13. I could really use some advice about history and science. We are off on our rotations in both due to some extreme circumstances that happened in the last couple of years. I realize these are content areas so I have tried to not get too bent out of shape about it but I am the kind of personality that says “It’s the 3rd grade year; we should be in x part of the rotation.†Argh! So the dilemma is DS is 3rd and DD is K at the moment and I’m not sure how to proceed. It seems it would be easier if they were closer in age but I’ll have a 4th & 1st grader next year. We are about halfway through Ancients and Biology. (Honestly, DS knows most of what is covered in ES Biology already from other sources but it’s nice to go through the curriculum and know that I don’t have holes.) I can continue with him just fine but DD will be 1st next year and needs to start the rotations. I have gone over this a million times in my head and I can’t come to a conclusion. So I’m now calling on the hive. The choices I keep coming up with are as follows: 1. Continue on with DS and go ahead and combine DD even though she is only 5 1/2. Then she’ll get half of the Ancients and Biology rotation and I can continue to have them in the same area for the lower grades. 2. Same as above but speed up DS to get him to the right rotations by 9th. Then let DD go at a normal pace to have her at her “correct†level. However, my worry with this is then I’ll be teaching 2 kids in 2 different areas of history and science. Frankly, all of our other curriculum is so teacher intensive that I’m not sure how I can pull this off. Coffee to the rescue! 3. Go head and jump DS to the right areas and then come back around to the others when he goes through the 2nd rotation. Then let DD start off in the right place. This still leaves me with the same concerns as above about teaching both of them in different areas. I’m open to all suggestions and would love to hear how you make it work by combining or not combining.
  14. Ditto! I'll pack my bags now for the chance to hear SWB again.
  15. :crying: I passed up several conventions that were closer just so I could go to this one. *sniff*
  16. I used to have people come over and ask if I ran a daycare. Now I know I should have told them it's a style of decorating.
  17. Emma, is that you? Just kidding. I just had this conversation with a good friend of mine a couple of weeks ago.:tongue_smilie: She's in the exact same position with a 5th grader that has not had formal grammar. I let her borrow FLL3 to see if it would be a good idea for her son to start at the very beginning and she thought it was the perfect fit. I think whatever you do, you'll need to start at the beginning. A 5th grade text is going to make the assumption that they know the parts of speech and how to do basic diagramming. IMO, FLL3 is a great introduction to formal grammar and diagramming.
  18. :iagree: Really, I couldn't have said it better.
  19. I would love some input on this app too. :bigear: I could really see this working for us if I could type up the assignments on my mac and then sync it to his itouch. I don't know if that's possible though.
  20. Currently, I have to look at his device to be sure. It is my understanding that the developer is working on the ability to sync between devices. mamachanse: Homeroutines does not allow printing that I am aware of.
