  1. This is a great idea! It really teaches active listening and the beginning of note taking.
  2. Spelling Workout has been a success with our DS. The things I like about it are: 1. It gives the list words in a clear format in a box to the side of the page. DS can go over them anytime he wants very quickly. 2. It uses several different ways to spell the words. For instance, the last letter might need to be filled in. Then it progresses to using the correct word in a sentence. At the end of the spelling lesson is a writing assignment. It has worked well for us so far. DS has needed a little extra help with some sight words. For that, I got a Spectrum Sight words book and he enjoys doing the activities.
  3. This thread is perfect timing and gives me serious food for thought. I was all set to order the SOTW CDs but my DS is very audio sensitive and doesn't like "Dry" stories. Since I still think it's a great idea, I'm still interested in hearing more feedback on the differences in the recordings. If I found the right one, I'm almost certain he would love listening to the stories.
  4. We use Singapore and our DS really likes it. We like the variety of problems used in their workbook, extra practice, intensive practice, and word problem books. Our only complaint is the lack of "true" math vocabulary used. This really won't be an issue unless you are a total math geek. :tongue_smilie: For those of us who are geeks, and you know who you are, just use the vocabulary in lessons and math questions around the house. DH and I do this all the time.
