  1. So dh and I were talking about our eventual exit plan from Malaysia. We plan to stay 4 more years until ds graduates high school then most likely move back to the states when he comes back for college (although the idea of leaving Malaysia makes me very sad). At any rate, we do not have strong ties to any one area so we were tossing around ideas for where we could possibly live and we came up with these 4 requirements: 1. Mild winters (It can be super hot in the summer, we are used to it. But I cannot handle brutal winters) 2. Culturally diverse (Moreso than just white people and black people. We have a Korean child and an Indian child so diversity is important to us. Also, the diversity of the city should be looked at as a positive thing by the residents, not a negative thing. :glare:) 3. Educated populace (I don't mean rich and snobby but I want to live around people who highly value education, the arts, politics, religion, speak in full sentences, etc.) 4. Socially conservative Does a place like this exist in America? .
  2. Well I give Challies credit for even wasting 5 minutes to give that piece literary drivel a review. I thought he was pretty nice about it, really. Not only is it absolute literary garbage, it is also theological garbage. It is just garbage. Someone gave it to me once. I used it to line the cat litter box. :D .

  6. We miss you all already even though we are having fun with our friends here. My kids miss your kids a lot! And I will happily cook for you any time... Well, except Italian maybe. I am too intimidated to cook Italian for your family! :D
  7. When my youngest turns 18 I will be 58 years old. I imagine I will be enjoying my grand kids from my oldest who will be 30 by then. Hopefully!
  8. Remember... A kitchen and one more bedroom... That's all we need. :tongue_smilie:
  9. We left DC and went to see friends near Asheville, NC for a week. Then it is back to Michigan for one more week then back home to Malaysia!
  10. I just wanted to say that this is the most respectful conversation I have ever read about KJVO. We have some acquaintances that are definitely KJVU and insist anyone who uses any other version is going to hell. Preferring one version is one thing but tying the use of that version to one's salvation is so wrong. This thread has been such a nice contrast to that.
  11. We have had such a fantastic week with MariannNOVA and her family. I can't believe it is over already. We saw so many amazing things in DC, became pros at riding the metro, ate at IHOP enough times to last us another year, and took hundreds of pics. Thanks to Mariann and her dh we had a beautiful, comfortable place to stay all week which made such a HUGE difference when traveling with small children. They even put fresh flowers from their own garden in the cottage for us! Our kids all got along like best friends and we had a fabulous time having dinner together. And as a going away present Mariann bought me the best gift ever! It is this cool, air tight cereal dispenser. We have to keep all our cereal in air tight containers in Malaysia because of ants and she has one on her kitchen counter. I commented on how awesome it was and a few days later she bought me one! Isn't she great? I am so happy to have met her family and to have made new friends and we are already cooking up plans in our brains to see them again!
  12. I, too, was taken to sale strip club on my 19th birthday. I thought it was HORRIFIC. Women rail against the objectification of women in the media and then we do the same thing to men?
  13. I still can't do Karen Kingsbury or anything Amish but I recently LOVED the Gods and Kings series by Lynn Austin. I will be looking up some of the authors he mentions. Thanks for posting!
