  1. Bumping and hoping for an update.
  2. I know I spend too much time here, because this weekend when I was shopping I had the following thoughts: While buying milk, I hoped that Quill would find a good creamer to use in her tea. While shopping for undergarments, I thought, "Oh, there are the lace underwear Katie recommended." While in the health food section, I recalled the discussion we had about Quorn and other meat substitutes. And those are just the examples that come to mind! :p
  3. Undisciplined. Gluttonous. Sometimes gossipy. Selfish.
  4. Cashiers licking their fingers to open bags. Please stop. I don't put my spit on your stuff, please don't put your spit on mine.
  5. Here is the CareCredit site. Poor puppy. Please keep us updated.
  6. My favorite brands for kids with wide feet are New Balance, Stride Rite, Jumping Jacks, and Buster Brown (no longer being made, I think). Alas, none of them are cheap. :(
  7. So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamers are pretty good in coffee; you could try them in tea.
  8. You guys are all amazing artists!!! :thumbup1: More pictures, please!
  9. I am white. My brother, my father, my child, and the vast majority of my neighbors are white. If any of them were subject to the kind of racism that black people in this country are subject to, I would be very upset, as I'm sure we all would be. I am of course upset regardless--as a Christian, I believe everyone is my neighbor, I have black brothers and sisters in the Lord, and I hate injustice of any kind and murder of anyone. Not sure what you're getting at here, but I am very worn out tonight. I'd be happy to try to clarify more if you want. :)
  10. I doubt there has ever been a logical riot. If our brothers, fathers, sons, and neighbors were the ones being shot while simply walking home, or holding a toy, or experiencing car trouble, I think we'd be pretty angry at this point. Yes, looting and destroying property are wrong. But so are the murders of innocent people, and I'm willing to bet some loudly condemn the first while having nothing to say about the second.
  11. More on keeping our eyes on the real problem, from Brandon Marshall, another football player who has chosen to kneel during the anthem: "One thing I have an issue with is people are really, extremely [ticked] off and mad about us kneeling and protesting peacefully. How come they don't have that same type of anger toward the situations that are going on? I think everybody needs to check themselves. It just lets me know that we have a long way to go as people. I don't want to go as far as to say people care more about the flag than their fellow man, but it seems like it." He's lost two local sponsorships so far. He's not out rioting, but obviously some people would prefer that he just shut up and play football. :(
  12. Your daughter reading to her brother is just a cute family moment. Go ahead and post it, and don't worry about it.
  13. Ah, that's too bad. At least you were able to successfully raise them to adulthood. Amazingly intelligent creatures.
  14. Good for your 8-year-old! So glad to hear that the raccoons will be cared for. :thumbup1:
  15. Was the mother raccoon dead or alive? If she was alive, I imagine it wasn't much fun for her, having her babies taken away. :( Butter, so sorry for your problems and so sorry for the baby raccoons! I hope they're being relocated to a wildlife rehabilitator?
  16. We have three showers in our house. I've banned the use of all but one. Ain't nobody got time for (cleaning) that. ;)
  17. Awful, awful, awful. Why does this keep happening? The man was having car trouble, and they shot him, and let him bleed out in the street and die. People, are you getting angry yet? If my car was stalled in the middle of the road, and I was walking towards a police car for help, I don't know that I would even think to put my hands above my head. He did, and they still shot him. Why?!?
  18. He sounds like an amazing man, Teresa. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  19. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Chicago Children's Museum at Navy Pier. It's not huge, but very well run and a lot of fun! I'd say it's best for kids 8 and under, but I'm sure your 10-year-old would enjoy it, too. Teachers (including homeschoolers) get a 50% discount on admission, so be sure to take a teacher ID if you have one. I highly recommend it. There's a lot of neat things to see at the Field Museum, but it's mostly things to look at rather than things to do. I'd skip the Aquarium. They keep wild-caught dolphins there and tried to obtain wild-caught belugas several years ago. It's very sad. Hope you have a wonderful vacation! I love Chicago!
  20. This thread reminds me of the "cat wrapping" chapter in one of the Herriot books. I found this quote from it: "I think it was the beginning of Mrs. Bond's unquestioning faith in me when she saw me quickly enveloping the cat till all you could see of him was a small black and white head protruding from an immovable cocoon of cloth. He and I were now facing each other, more or less eyeball to eyeball, and George couldn't do a thing about it. As I say, I rather pride myself on this little expertise, and even today my veterinary colleagues have been known to remark, 'Old Herriot may be limited in many respects, but by --- he can wrap a cat.'†:)
  21. We looked at a house with a "throne" toilet in the basement. The toilet was up on a platform, and it had a mural of a painted throne surrounding it, with unicorns on either side. Across from the toilet was mural of a dragon. It was actually kind of fun (but was in a bathroom, where it belonged). :)
  22. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Admittedly I had in mind the modern evangelical church, not Catholics and Eastern Orthodox believers. Generally speaking, I would say that my Roman Catholic and EO friends place a much heavier emphasis on "works" than do my evangelical friends.
