Hello all, I am looking for shoes for my toddler with fat feet. I'd love to hear some suggestions of brands from all of you that make a soft shoe big enough for my 17 mo. old. and are affordable. I've seen the soft star shoes, and that's the kind of thing I'm looking for, but just can't justify $50 for shoes that may only be worn for a month. Thanks for your help, Debbie

My daughter turns 2 this summer. This fall, I would like to find activities that would occupy her while I do school with my older kids. She is a BUSY toddler and loves to tear up books, run around dumping out toys, etc. I thought about purchasing the Toddler preschool pack from MFW. Does anyone else own it? Would like to hear the pros/cons, along with how it captures your child's attention.

As I mentioned in the family theme-costume thread, DD is going as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Any bright ideas for what to make DS? He's only 2 1/2 and doesn't seem to have an opinion himself on what he wants to be for Halloween. Something that coordinates with Buffy would be great, but it can also be his own thing. We have some hand me down costumes, but the tiger (from last year) is too small, and the lion costume is too big. We need to not spend much. I could probably make him a "knight" or "prince" with medieval SCA garb, but for SCAdian kids, "that's not a costume, mom, that's just

Okay, my 2.5-yo now needs roughly the same amount of sleep as my 7-year-old. Since my best, longest stretch of read-aloud time has been reading to Button after I've settled the tot, as a bedtime story, what to do? (the toddler doesn't take a nap) Please don't tell me to get up 30-45 min earlier with the tot. Or if you do, please send a hug along with the advice! :) Here's the current schedule for morning wake-up and PM going down: 7:00 AM -- boys allowed up. Button sleeps until 7:30 usually, Bot-bot's been getting up at 6 - 6:30 the last week or so. 8:00 AM -- everybody needs

I know the usual toys - puzzles, blocks, finger paints, big crayons - problem is DD1 is not interested in these and continually raids DD6 toys while we are schooling (her room is next to school room). She especially likes the fiddly small Miss Pocket or beads that end up in her mouth and are a bit hazardous. I want to make her her own baskets with things she can do only during school hours that will keep her busy and not necessarily need a lot of input from me/us. Any ideas? And I was thinking of maybe investigating the Montessori options available since they are educational - anyone used

:grouphug: Hello everyone! I am new to homeschooling and about to start with our 4.5 year old son. We also have a 23 month old son who is is very active and into everything. Do you have recommendations for ways to keep him busy so I can focus on my short, 20 min lessons with our 4.5 year old? (We are just doing informal things right now as we determine the best curriculum for us-- but I am trying to gauge doing short lessons while trying to keep the younger one occupied and happy. I am thinking I will do kindergarten this coming year 2012/2013). Outdoor play is great for him,

Ok, today I started using the "Talking Ben" app where he parrots the reader to have Ben review with my daughter some of our lessons for OPGTR. She loved it. This might work for a 2 to 4 year old. Also, I must say I :001_wub:the app called "The ABC's of God". Handwriting practice, differentiating letters on upper and lower case, finding letters within a text, reading Bible verses with your kiddo, learning what "God is.." with a word for every letter of the alphabet....I LOVE it! I just had to share. Please share your favorite apps for toddlers and preschoolers and any creative use of

Tips for parents of infants / toddlers?
robbyjo posted a topic in General Education Discussion Board
Hi all, My first daughter is about to turn one very soon and I am already concerned with her education. I have a feeling that she is gifted. When she talks to me, she often gives a disapproving look to my response as if she were saying, "That's not what I mean, Daddy!" Likewise, she'd cheer or smile if I do what she wants. Right now, she can pronounce about 5-6 words somewhat consistently and knows some "tricks" (e.g., bye bye, arms up, etc.). She can cruise, but cannot walk unassisted yet. I am exploring the possibility of homeschooling. I am working full time, while my wife s- 15 replies

my son is almost 2.5 and i am sure this is probably just the terrible 2's but i feel like i am at a lost sometimes. this is my first child and me and my husband are pretty much alone as our families live in different countries than us. i have no experience with kids so i feel like i am screwing him up because i dont know how to do stuff. he doesn't talk yet and we dont plan to do speech therapy until 3yr. because we are doing one parent one language (arabic/english) and i read that there could be a delay in speech but he is not delayed in non verbal. he just started eating solids. First, I’d like to thank everyone who reads this post and that have read my other posts. With your help and advice, I have finally made a decision (er…got a grip on reality) and decided to wait on a literature based curriculum and teaching how to read until next year or the year after (also gives me more time to gather the books and decide which one to use). This year’s focus is mastering “basic skillsâ€. My situation is (I think) a bit different than many of you in that I am a WAHM. As I have my DS at home, my work day ends up 10-12 + hours long in order to “have my cake and eat

Ok, I am not looking to teach my little guy to read or anything fancy like that!!! : ) : ) I just feel like he gets swept to the wayside too often, and I'd like to add some structure to his day. I am horrible about getting stuff like that done unless I have a box to check : ) Anyone have suggestions for an easy, fun, and free curriculum appropriate for an almost 2 year old? Something to work on colors, shapes, fingerplays, songs, Bible, stories...themes? Thanks!

For those of you who have little ones (3 and under) who are really too little to participate in school much, how do you keep them occupied while you are working with your older kids? I've looked at some of the Quiet Books from RR, but I don't know who long they would really keep her occupied. So, I'm really just looking for some ideas.

I have 2 older boys, oldest average in intelligence and younger son is gifted mathematically. My dd will be 2 in 2 weeks. She can sing her ABCs, count to 5, recognize half the alphabet, knows colors, knows shapes, and speaks clearly. What sort of curriculum do you use? She could not write, but I would like to teach her to read since the interest is there. She will listen to me read books for an hour!

I have two dds, ages 5 1/2 and almost 4. The 5 year old is homeschooling K right now, and things are going well. My 3-almost-4 year old (in Nov.) is driving me to distraction, though. She is a very bright little thing and LOVES to do just about anything related to school/learning/books. However, since she will not officially be K age for two more years, I've tried to hold off a little. That is not to say that I don't prepare things for her to do; I do, but it's just not exactly what her older sis is doing. I usually alternate working with the girls--I'll work with DD1 and give DD2 someth

Hi everyone, I'm new to homeschooling, planning to "officially" start this fall with my soon-to-be 7 year old DS. I have two other DSs in the house, a 4 year old and a soon-to-be 2 year old. I have been trying to start homeschooling this summer, not even a full plate but basically math (to catch up what was NOT done this past year in 1st grade, it's amazing how little they do in public schools now in math!! My DS is an advanced reader but still has trouble with basic math facts!) and some language arts. We do homeschooling at our dining room table and we start these activities in the m

My poor son is driving me nuts. Whenever I try to teach my daughter, my son (the 3 year old) starts getting into trouble. What can I do for him?! I don't want to keep fussing at him. But let me tell you, he is not going to sit silently and listen, or color a sheet of paper, or look at books on his own. Part of it, I think, is that he needs one-on-one time with me, too (besides the 6 minutes or so we spend each day reviewing the alphabet). So, in addition to needing help with him while I teach my daughter, can you offer curriculum ideas for a 3 yo? I'm trying to think of ideas - maybe Li
